Any one played Rocksmith 2014?

Just ordered it to help me practice as im lazy, so i figured it might be a good way to keep the fingers working.

Any opinions welcome!

Took a chance and ordered it, i think it should be good from what ive read.

Should make practicing scales and chord changes a little less dull. As i struggle ti think of exercises on my own and get bored so i think the interaction should help with that.

I guess id say im a beginner, i used to play a lot when I was younger but not properly for years do im very rusty, hopefully this will help!

Yeh I think it should be a help after reading a lot of forum posts and YouTube stuff.

I reckon the interface might take some getting used to, and the very slow 'one note every ten seconds' might get annoying as i can kinda play already.

Putting time in shouldn't be too bad, as i can interact with it a bit.. My main issue is my brain knows where i should be but my fingers don't obay due to lack of practice for a few years, so im quite looking forward to things like the scale mini games, and having to do chord progressions in time rather than at my own pace. Hopefully it will help get the muscle memory back a bit faster.

Well after about 3 hours of setting up steam and Uplay accounts I finally got about 30 mins play time in!

The memory overheads on this are crazy, Uplay (ubisoft DRM) uses almost as much resource as the game itself!!

Anyway the gamer itself so far is excellent, im still having some lag issues, i.e. you hear the note you play a few milliseconds after you actually play the note which is a bit naff -I've got a creative soundcard with analogue out to a power amp which my speakers are hooked up to. I hear its worse if you use audio over HDMI to TV as the TV adds extra audio processing lag.

I've made some improvements by manually editing some .ini file settings I found online to reduce lag, buffer size and some other stuff, it's a bit like overclocking in that respect, trying to balance stability and performance of two or three options without crashing.

There is still an annoying bit of lag, the next step I think is to revert to my onboard audio instead of my soundcard, as my sound card has no onboard memory and it should take some processing overheads out of the chain.

If I can eliminate the lag to an extent where the sound delay is more like playing normally then I'll be very happy, its not too far off now but noticeable to the point you've not only got to think about what your playing but play slightly ahead of the track to compensate for the audio lag.

I had to invert the tab as I couldn't get my head round the standard GUI tab thing.

Otherwise excellent so far, my forearm is aching from playing the kinks!

Quick update if anyone's searching for answers on this, I didn't need to revert to on-board audio, which im quite happy about as the signal is quite dirty compared to through the sound card, and it saves me hassle.

lag reduced to nothing (that I can hear) by disabling my on-board Ethernet/NIC. Thanks to some random on Reddit for that, there's no mention in the official how-too guides.
You need net access to start the game, but once on, you can alt-tab out, and disable the NIC in device manager.

Just like playing through a normal analogue amp, no delay, perfect!

How the hell is a NIC causing lag issues? Weird!

I know mine isn't right and it does bug me at times, but I haven't really messed about with the settings too much yet.

No idea lol! But it works! There's some ini file tweaks that i found reduce lag a lot but not properly, buffer settings and stuff.

If your lag is minimal it may be worth manually tweaking the ini file as it improved mine a lot, but it was still not quite there.

Played the 1st one and this one for about 12 months now. I am no Slash, but I can play quite a bit. I have tried to learn guitar a few times with absolutely no success, but Rocksmith makes sense to me and makes learning fun!

There is an active modding scene too, with and a lot of custom tracks are now available for RS2014

Oooh, cheers i didn't consider mods, im more into acoustic than electric, as this is seems a bit biased toward classic rock and metal that might be an option to explore, do you know any websites that cater for the mods?
