Hi all

In an attempt to lose a little weight before Christmas I am being careful with what calories I am eating.

I was hoping I might be able to find something simple to stick on my mobile phone to help me with this but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for, and wondered if anyone here might be able to help?

What I'd like really is something really simple that will allow me to work our how many calories there are in a pack of whatever food. Often they list the info for 100g but the package is say 215g, I'm sure my mental maths should be able to do these kinds of sums but I am useless at maths and I can never get my brain round it when I'm shopping, so a simple calculator to do it for me would be wonderful!!!

Ideally I'd like to be able to input:

Portion size of the info given on the packaging (100g or whatever)
Number of calories in that portion.
Size of the pack or per portion etc

and then have it give me the amount of calories in that portion.

For example:

say a food had the info on it saying that 100g contained 50 calories and the whole pack weighed 300g

I would enter:

Portion size of the info given on the packaging (100g)
Number of calories in that portion. (50calories)
Size of the pack or per portion etc (300g)
and it would give me calories for that portion (150g)

I have made a simple spread sheet to do this, but have no experience with programming in java etc and wondered if anyone might be able to either make such a simple programme to do this, or indeed point me in the right direction of someone who might be able to make it?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

I'd be able to knock something up for this pretty quickly, but wouldn't it just be easier to use the calculator on your phone already?

Hi

Sorry for the delay in replying, I hadn't seen your reply.

It wasn't until I was typing up the my message that I really started to think about how it would do the calculating and that was when I made the spreadsheet. I thinik I've always struggled to get to grips with what exactly I needed to do with the numbers while I've been in the shops. But sitting down and thinking about it the other day, actually it is very easy maths now I've realised exactly what calculations need doing.

That said, I've always found the calculators on phones to be rather fiddley when it comes to selecting the function, divide, multiply etc so if it was possible to have an application where I didn't need to do that, it would speed it up a little.

Not to mention when, in a few weeks time when I'm not so enthusiastic about calorie counting and have forgotten what I need to do with the figures. It would be easier if they were just built into an application so I didn't have to remember.

If you were able to put something together, I would be eternally grateful! :o)
