Simply want a website (html) and a domain. What's the cheapest host etc? Must be able to get it up for £10-20/yr?

Ideally I'd want to actually use two domains to get to the same website, but one would suffice. It/they'd be .co.uk domains...

Cheapest I've found thus far is £28.07 for a years hosting & the domain registered for two (with 1&1).

Oops! My bad abuot the wrong forum!

Looked at vidahost = £29, so more expensive...

Literally only want a couple of HTML pages and nothing else (mail forwarding would be useful)... Very little hits/bandwith...

I have a spare hosting package with ETGlobalsolutions that i do not use. It was purchased about 4 months ago, I paid for it and i no longer needed it.

I payed £14.99 for it which will give you a years hosting, you can have it for £8, you will have to purchase a domain name and change the nameservers though, ill give you the account details, you can simply log into the control panel and change the account details including any passwords.

Let me know.

Thanks for the heads-up on ETGlobalsolutions! I can get one of their bronze packages and a domain from 1&1 all for well under a tenner!!!

A question about their package!?! Without a domain pointing to it I assume you just have a url to the webpage still? And if you use a domain, then you only see the domain at the top of the browser, ie: it doesn't revert to the 'raw url' (instead of the domain)?

So if my site there was "etsolutions.com/mysite/" I could access it from that url, or if I bought a domain "www.mydomain.com" and pointed it there, I could access it from that domain and would only see "www.mydomain.com" and nothing to do with "etsolutions.com/mysite/"?

Yes basically.

Buy the domain name if you need one via 1and1 and then use the free web space your your ISP will almost certainly provide you to host the actual site and just point the domain to the web space.

Or alternatively for about £12 get 1 years hosting and a .com domain with Dreamhost if select the insame domain option and yearly billing and you use the code of HUKDMAX you will it for about £12 deoending on the exchange rate.

I'm with Be, so no webspace or email... (unless you pay £24/y)

Dreamhost is $9.95/month unless I've missed something?

Dreamhost has a lot of downtime, have had bad experiences there, check out a few more online forums and you'll find more of the same, check out http://www.velcom.com/virtual_hosting.php, they are canadian so you can take advantage of the dollar/pound exchange rate, they even have an 11TB per month package at $27/month, I can guarantee you'll get pretty much 100% uptime!

Not that fussed about a bit of downtime as it's only a personal site that will be getting a tiny amount of traffic.

But nothing has yet matched ETGlobalsolutions' bronze packages and a domain from 1&1 all for well under a tenner/yr!!!

the code HUKDMAX gives a discount of $97 i think. For the whole year I paid just over $20 and that included a year registration of a .com address

At the moment I cannot comment on reliability as I only just started to use them this weekend as wanted a cheap site to start mucking around with PHP and the like.

Only thing is the next year it would zoom up price wise I suspect

Yes It probably will go back up at the end of the years hosting but this is no biggie as will just look for a new hosting deal in the same way that end of my mobile 12 month contract I look for a new deal.

Have you looked at 123-reg.co.uk for web addresses?

For £20 I got a .com and a .co.uk for two years. I then used a different hosting company (one run by a mate, so it doesn't cost me :p).
I got a buy one get one free deal on the domain though.

I've had two sites hosted on dreamhost for a while now and haven't noticed any downtime. I don't use monitoring software or anything but considering I use the domains for work related activities and am on them for a large portion of the day, I imagine I would notice any downtime.

tbh though, I think a lot depends on what server they put you on. Some of them seem to have a lot of problems.

Why not try http://www.dynadot.com for a .com which comes in at $7.99 or ~£4 a year You can pay by paypal or moneybookers.

Freehostia.com which is free and gives:
Data storage: 250 MB
Monthly bandwidth: 5 GB
Hosting for 2 domains
NO ADS
PHP & Perl enabled
1 MySQL database
10 MB MySQL DB space

I have an account with freehostia but dont use it as i am with vidahost but for a few html pages you would find it hard to beat this price.
