I got a switch on my fan controller which isolates all the fans, the pump still runs but all the fans and lighting go out, perfect for leaving on over night or if not gaming as it wont go over 46/47 deg.

I turn them on when gaming, this is a good way to save on electric i guess but mainly noise.

Anyone else do this? :D:cool:

i control my fans thru my main control unit but they are either on full slightly slower or of completely not pwm ones mostly cant hear them on full tho anyway so no need to tbh

A way to save on leccy....how much do you think a few fans and LEDs use? :p

I do sometimes run mine passive, have to slightly notch up the pump, but for a midnight websearch its perfect.

I have done. Im not a gamer but the temps.never got near worrying levels.

Q6600 at stock, 240mm radiator.

when you say passive do you mean the rad fans are off.
Or ALL the fans in your pc are off (inc psu?)

Single fan build (case intake) No fans on my rad.
Gaming - temp's hit mid 50s (cpu and gpu)
low 40's for everything else

I do on occcasion, on low the fans are barely audible, but at times you just want pure quiet. I have the gpu and cpu (with speedstep enabled) on a 120.3 and after a while the rad and blocks can get quite hot (almost too hot to touch) but temps are fine, mid 50's watching a iplayer on screen 2 and web browsing on screen 1 for eg. The rest of the case and components get hot too from all the radiated heat trapped. Convection alone just isnt good enough so I dont like to do it to often.

Even just 1 low speed fan on a controller makes a sig diff.

yea the only fan on is the psu one which i dont notice, the mechanical hdd turns off but ssd stays on. i love it

I run the rig in my sig passively 24/7. The only fan in it is the PSU.

The radiator is massive though - core is 30cm x 40cm as it's from a car.

I run it with the radiator lying on its side, slightly raised off the floor / table (wherever it's sitting) so that air can flow up through it.

When I do an upgrade, I'll mount fans on it, but probably only use them for benchmarking and overclocking.

If your PC is not doing anything over night why don't you just turn it off, you'll save for more electricity + noise than what you are doing now. My PC is on at least 12 hours a day and gets turned off at night when finished with and l have never had any problems by doing this.

I only leave it on if it's downloading something big as my Internet is so slow here it takes a while.
