I know the cards are 290x rehashes, but just wondering if anyone has decided to get a couple for crossfire as they are supposedly cooler running than the older 290x. I'm just not convinced the Fury and Fury X or worth up to £200 more than a 390x looking at fps in games etc. HBM has been totally meh, not really giving any improvements over GDDR5 by the look of it apart from management of VRAM in games. Wondering if a couple of 8GB 390x would be a better performance per buck route than the Fury/ Fury X at 1440p route

Tough one at 1440p as it dependent on the games you play, intend to play in the future.
If you can live with the pros and cons of crossfire, then just get yourself a couple of far cheaper 390's as opposed to the 390x, or 390x's if you wish.

On the other hand buy a variation of gm200 and overclock it to the moon.

no money doesnt matter to much, but just because I have it, I'm not one to just spend it on top end stuff. I don't see the Fury/Fury X worthy of their price tags at the moment, Fury £75 to steep and Fury X £100 to steep.

Would you think my gold rated 850w PSU be up to running a couple of 390 cards?

This is the route I'm thinking of taking as well to replace my single 290. Going to be needing a bit more oompf to run my new 1440p BenQ.
Not keen on xfiring msi 290's due to heat, but was thinking 2x msi 390 if they run cooler and would push 144hz/1440p?

kinda, but for someone that is running 7950's like myself who missed the boat regarding the 290, the 390 is quite a bit of an improvment. Better cooling, higher clocks and really good bang for buck. Reviews at the moment are putting it much better option than the 970 in this price range.
