Like the title said Id be intrested in seeing game results if a 5870 or 480 is put in a system running an overclocked q6600 say at 3.2, 3.3
Cant afford changing the board ,cpu ,ram at the moment but am looking at graphics card update and can run to the 480 .
Maybe in 6 months ill have enough for the other components but it may have to stay together for the next 2 years with a new card
i game at 1900x1200
q6600 at 3.2
rampage formula
4 gig dominators at 1066
geforce 8800 gts 512
ps as nvidia have copped on id be keeping the 8800 for physx
720watt Enermax
q6600 is water cooled

You would be better with a 5850, allows you to save £100 for the rest of it and you can get 5870 performance out of it.

As per the chip, I think you will be absolutley fine, won't really bottleneck the card, but might be a bit slower in some cpu orientated games nowadays. (L4d2, bfbc2).

So long as you dont come into some money and contract 'upgradititus' that spec and a 5850 ll serve you well for a while yet.

el Kuarlos thamks for the reply, put up the same post in guru3d and andatech ,seems a nice few guys with much the same system as mine are running the 480 with very good results.
So i opted for it and paid my money last night,i could have saved money but the chances id have kept the remainder long enough for upgrade time is unlikely :)
Also seen some nice overclocks or and undervolts under water with the swiftech MCW80 ,prob will end up doing as they have, currently using the swiftech H20-220 Ultima XT on the cpu,but Will do a bit more research to see if i can add the card to the system and still keep it cool enough, not wanting to spend on a full cooling system just for the card,
might strap an extra fan over the heatsink to keep max temps lower and reduce noise.
Anyway ill have the MSI GeForce GTX 480(sorry overclockers had to find elsewhere cheaper and in stock)prob by Wednesday, ill post some feedback for anyone thinking of grabbing the 480 with specs like mine.
min average framerates is more important than max to me

Nothing wrong with that CPU. A quad running at over 3GHz is good enough for any card.

Would get the 5850 asus one, if you clock it you should get same performance as 5870. I recently moved form a q6600 to and I7 and don't notice much difference, only in cpu intensive games such as supreme commander
