and get anywhere near sensible temps ?

thinking of upgrading - but the thought of completley removing my motherboard to install rear-brace plate etc is way putting me off

is a Freezer 7 completely inadequate - for say getting up to 3.0 on the Q6600 ?

thanks guys,

Mark.

I am running a Freezer 7 Pro on a Q6600 G0 @ 3ghz and I get temps of 40c idle, 66c Prime95 load on the hottest cores. And that's with several very quiet case fans.

My setup is as follows....

Front - 120mm Akasa Amber (Speed reduced to inaudible with Akasa Fan Control Jr), Scythe Kama Bay with 120mm Akasa Smoky (1000 RPM) both as intake

Side - 80mm Akasa Amber (Speed reduced to inaudible with Akasa Fan Control Jr) as exhaust

Inside - Antec Spot Cool (Speed reduced to 2000 RPM in uGuru) hovering above the GFX card

On the board - 2 x 40mm Akasa Blue Led (Speed reduced to 3000 RPM in uGuru) on the Northbridge and PWM Heatsinks [also soon to include a OCZ XTC Memory Cooler over the RAM]

Rear - 120mm Akasa Amber (Full Speed) Thermaltake Cyclo PCI Blower (Speed reduced by Zalman Speed Reducing Cable) both as exhaust

This is all installed in a Jeantech Phong case (certainly not the best case and by no means roomy!). I also have a very silent Tagan TG480-U01 PSU and my 8800GTS is barely audible until gaming, and even then it's not bad. My HDD's are all Samsung Spinpoint, the quiestest disks available.

In fact, the noisiest thing in my system is the rear Akasa fan at full speed, and even it is rated at 18db, so it gives you an idea of how quiet I like things.

The only thing I found with the Freezer is that it can be noisy at full fan speed. Get decent airflow in your case and this won't be a problem anymore. I also have it's fan speed limited to 85% max in uGuru.

i would'nt overclock a quad core with a freezer 7 pro

i've used loads of them to overclock lesser chips though
e.g. allendale 1.86 to 2.4

thanks guys for the responses- quite tempting then I have to say - sounds like its not in-feasible - not necessarily advisable but not impossible.

currenlty I have 2 intake fans, Akasa 120mm Amber + Noiseblocker 120mm (in a Scythe Kama front intake) + Noisblocker 120mm + 120mm Scythe fan on outlets - so lots of air going in and out (about 80cfm each way)

I know a quad-core gives off a lot of heat - but my freezer 7 is currently coping with my E6600 at 1.55Vcore which is pretty high - without getting too hot.

I wouldn't mind buying a Scythe Ninja etc just puts me off having to take the mobo off the tray etc etc to install the back plate :(

I'm running a E6550@475x7 (3.3Ghz) on an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro. Temps are 32/32 at idle and 59/59 when running Orthos.
I know the quads run hotter but I'm more than pleased with my Freezer pro

well they must be upto the job as on there web site itsays they support quad cores now,i know they are probably not the best but for the price you pay

bang for buck they are great, like i say i usually put them in loads

well looks like I've answered my own question ...

with a 1.325 VID Q6600 Q0

....

3.5 gig (8x438) = Prime95 = max load of 66C

Vcore = 1.475 - but lots of Vdroop = 1.4 actual

I wasn't expecting really over 3.1 gig to be honest - so 3.5 gig :) :)

Freezer 7s are superb !

I was just surprised as one of the things that majorly put me off a Q6600 was that I thought I'd have to go a Tuniq or equivalent to get a decent overclock

I've switched to a Tuniq tower from the freezer 7 pro, I found my temps got a tad too high at full load running at 3.0ghz with the freezer 7, this is with a hot B3 Q6600 though.

My E6300 is sitting now at 32c with the AC freezer 7 @ 3.22ghz, the individual cores are 45c/43c.

This is with the supplied fan at just over 1000rpm, no case airflow (having the side on my case makes the case rattle :()

Stays around 50c on full load (orthos) as fan goes up to 2.5krpm or something... i love it, for the £11 i paid for it i think its a damn good piece of kit and im sure it will keep a quad cool also :)
