ok guys do to our lan tournaments are starting to use TFT monitor's over crt's now i'm thinking of upgrading to a tft to get used to it! so thinking of upgrading to a 20-22inch widescreen but i need to know that cs1.6 can be run properly without the need to stretch it? as most of the lans use non widescreen monitors!

so in short spec me a high performance 20-22inch monitor that will run cs1.6 smoothly?

1.6 isn't about looks you do realise? that's why i usually play either 640x480 or 800x600, anyone know if running these res's on a widescreen would be a problem? or should i just go for a fast 19inch non-widescreen like the 2ms viewsonic?

hmm, i'm looking at the new samsung 226bw after the reviews i've seen! did you try running in window mode? does the stretch make it look bad? do you loose much visibility in game?

hmmm well as i'm a high level gamer, and play in a lot of competitions i need a monitor that is going to perform as close to a crt as possible, so i'm debating wether widescreen is what i really need at the minute? asthetics are of no real value to me as i'l be looking at whats on the screen rather than the screen itself!

so with this in mind could you recommend a monitor? maybe the viewsonic 19" 2ms or the NEC 19" GX2?

ahh thanks for the input, and yeah i know the GX2 have the glossy screens as our sponsored lan centre in harrow provides them for us, i've found them fine so long as their is no direct light shining toward them! with widescreen it could mean that it will mess cs 1.6 up and stretch the image and make it look poor, i will need the screen to run either 800x600 or 640x480!

i'm starting to lean toward the vx922

**edit

at hardcore are you a high level gamer or a social public gamer in 1.6?

yes team intent and using lower resolutions allows you to see more in game ;), why else do you think none of the professional players play above 800x600 at the most?

urm Mr LOL thanks for your words of wisdom your comments are highly valuable  , if you are not a competitive gamer then you wouldn't understand or if you have played at a elite level you will understand that i don't want to lose viewing area all for something that looks better in movies, i use my comp predominantly for 1.6 and as this would be my first tft monitor i'm debating wether it's worth me getting a widescreen or if it will affect my 1.6 play too much! and so far everyone has been trying to help me and i thank their comments! and for those who say 1.6 looks horrible, i agree it does! but then since when was cs1.6 about looks?

i agree with you to a certain degree, there is far too much emphesis placed on configs, resolutions, rates etc (i lose count of the times i've been on a server and someone has cried about my rates although they are the cpl default 25000 101 101! but with tft v crt i can notice the difference! i've mentioned previously that our team is sponsored by omegasektor in harrow there they use NEC 19GX2 monitors and i can tell the delay over a crt especially when quick scope shooting the awp! but they are certainly very close and the brightness is a lot better on tft's means you can see inside vents and tunnels a lot clearer :D
