I am everywhere...
I dont celebrate birthdays, xmas or events like that. While most seem to be banging about valentine's day, I just see it as another day...I dont have to buy GF cards, flowers, jewelry for her to know i care - Thank god she knows that and very understanding.

Anyone else not bothered about these celebrations...?

after reading the thread title i knew it would be you without looking at the poster!

I celebrate them.

edit : wooooooooooh im andr3w again, erm, gilly, can i have a capital a please :p

Why am i crazy though? Do those things really call for celebrations? Dont get me wrong, it aint the money but i just dont see the need. :)

Your missing soo much, Birthdays and Xmas and Valentines days are all great

No i dont smoke.

I do. Especially New Years Eve. So overrated! Most people see it as a fresh start or something - I'm a firm believer that fresh starts shouldn't wait for NYE! When I want to have a really really good time I can do it.. no need to wait for a Holiday! Oh & btw I don't celebrate my own bday at all!

this isn't exactly ground breakingly new but it may come as a shock to you:

yes some people will agree with you

and yes, some people will disagree with you.

I'm sure your wedding day (if there is one) - will just be another day to you, ditto any anniversary after that.

V-day D-day - why do we bother? Sheesh forget about the sacrifice people made.

Like most things, we do it to remember and commemorate/celebrate.

birthdays/xmas/valentines day all have different reasons to celebrate - and people do just that.

i personally don't really care about my birthday - but it doesn't mean i don't like to celebrate it.

So one person agrees with you, ergo you aren't crazy :p

This sort of attitude is prevalent in psych wings and mental homes, like the Foil Cap Club on one ward, who all think the government are broadcasting thought control waves into their brains. Sure a number of them agree with the idea, but they sure ain't sane :p

By the way I do see your point, especially on valentines/NYE, without being to presumptuous but I bet your GF is putting up a bit of a front and would love to get presents on valentines no matter what she might say

The only real problems i find with these things is the commercial side of it and the possible guilt for not joining in when others like to, cards are the real waste of money and time etc, i would much prefer it if people just said these greetings, if anything cards are only good to send to people far away or for certain occasions, buying presents on birthdays and christmas is a real hassle too when you've got a big family not to mention costly, why not condense everything into one day a year?
