Hi,

I'm looking at getting the following items ordered later tonight and wondering if anyone can spot any silly incompatiablitiy issues I might of missed:

I'll be adding to this an ATI Graphics Card (HIS X550 - No longer sold by OC), a DVD-RW (using IDE) and 2 Additional 1Tb Drives.

The system will be used as a new server...consildating down 5 older systems to reduce heat / noise and space so graphics etc are not important. It just needs to run my VM's and be reliable. My main concern is the 400W power supply...anyone think this should maybe go up to 500+ ???

Oh and it will all be getting mounted in an old Chieftec Dragon case.

Thanks,

Richard

Personaly all looks ok, is the cpu a bit overkill for a server!
The motherboard is out of stock at the moment you might want to change it to the Gigabyte board.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I ended up going out so will look to order tomorrow now (well today I guess). Looking at replacing the motherboard and PSU with

Opted against gigabyte as I cant seem to spot any motherboards offering similar spec for same sorta price...maybe someone else knows of somthing to recommened. Also I had abit boards for many years in old servers and they still running just fine.

I going for the Quad Core over a dual core as the system will be getting used for testing development of a distribute online programming environment I have been working on as a part of a university project and now a full research project along with supporting VM's hosting Home Web Server, Windows Share Point Services, SVN repository, Email, File and Print Server and some other bits and pieces too. I know the majority of server services will not actually produce much load...maybe use 1 core but the project work is rather intensive and also quad core seems sensible for future proofing.

Will also look to add another 4 Gb of RAM later and for additional HDD...look at a PCI card supporting additional SATA ports (which I already have)...or simply a new mobo...will see when time comes.

Thanks for the advice so far

Richard
