I got a Guardian to level 32. Played it for about 6 months after release.
After a while though I kind of got a bit bored, because it was hard to find decent groups and the Guardian was rubbish for solo.

How is the game now? Anyone still play it?

Uh, the game has changed vastly...
The classes were all revamped and made better, they also made levelling more solo friendly whilst still keeping the grouping aspect.
There's also built in voice chat, guild halls and achievement point system.... list goes on :D

It's a more mature game than WoW tbh...... anyway that's a whole new discussion, half the people here probably haven't heard of EQ2 anyways. :P

Played it when it first came out, Didn't like it too much, Class's lacked a lot.
Was playing WoW at the time with friends so that swung it for me.

Wasn't massively impressed by it, well not compared to how impressed I was with world of warcraft.

Just my two cents.

It's a more mature game than WoW tbh

Don't know about that :)

I found it to be so.

Its not got a huge player base but plenty for a lot of fun. The game has changed over time, and has got grown well. I played from lvl 30ish to 40 a while ago and could always find someone or a group to do all the quests that i had since the game 1st came out.

Its a good thing that wow collects all the annoying people, so you'll bump into less morans in EQ2, but of course you bump into less people period.

Still my no1 choice for a mmo and its one of the very few online games that can claim to be a mmoRPG.

That'd be my opinion on it too, last time I logged into WoW to give it another try within seconds I was inundated by duel invites :(

EQ2 is the only MMO that has ever grabbed me from the outset and held my interest, excepting Eve that is but the sheer awfulness of support in Eve made me with a very bitter taste so I don't play that at all anymore.

Yeh, you get a lot of new stuff, they have changed the class building system to make it a bit more than just a gear based game (like most other mmo's)

Sorry - you found the classes in EQ2 lacking so went for WOW?
WOW is just so basic compared to EQ2, EQ2 has a lot more character depth.

Whereas I agree that WOW is the "biggest" game out there at the moment I totally disagree that it is the best.
I agree with the statement that EQ2 is a "more mature" MMORPG than WOW, not in age but just in content etc.

Although I'm currently spending time with the "brain switch-off" WAR at the moment, only EQ2 from the current crop of MMORPG's out there would really interest me for long-term playing because there is a fair amount of diversity - oh and I still say it also looks a lot better than WOW.

I didn't choose World of Warcraft on the basis that I didn't like the class's, I went with World of Warcraft because my friend played that.
World of Warcraft has 11 odd million subs for a reason, its obvisouly doing something right, and do you think if everquest was doing things as well as world of warcraft it would have more subs.

I think World of Warcraft is the better game, personal opinion, thats not to say Everquest two isn't a bad game. I quite enjoyed it, I just didn't like the class's much.

Started playing eq2 back in its wee days, was new to mmos so my intial review was: good fun but too much to learn, way too steep graphic requirements, buggy as hell, screw this. A year later: still buggy, getting used to graphics, learning the game, will try again a year later. Last year started playing again just before rise of kunark expansion, absolutely loved it, so many things have been ironed out and new things added, the new expansion took it a notch higher. The graphics, albeit, still cant be maxed out on most machines, are much better now with new hardware (solid 40-50fps on extreme quality but in non populated areas) Game does look gorgeous. Raiding was great fun, the low level boredom has been replaced with some new content to ease you in to higher tier gaming. New expansion just around the corner. Added voice chat support. Overall, i had to stop back in august because of my studies but cant wait to play again.

Have a 80 guardian, 56 warlock, 28 bruiser and some other classes. the guard was so damn fun to play with i just wasnt bothered to level any of my other toons. With recent changes i have heard they have tweaked some classes, including the guardians, for better or for worse, not sure yet.

my score, i know dont mean much but anyway: at launch 6.5/10, Now 9/10.

P.S. played WoW but just didnt like it one bit.

Played it earlier this year. It has changed a lot, you can solo up to max level now. I didn’t find much of interest once at max level though. The instance weren’t as polished as WoWs and there are no BGs.

The exp rates vastly increased, can do 1-20 in a weekend. Used to take months. This does mean a lot of content ignored. Not all together a bad thing as some of the original content truly sucks. Everfrost and Lavastorm must be two of the worst zones ever created in a MMO but they can be totally skipped now. Also, thought the Kingdoms in the Sky content was poor but Kunark very good.

I've played it for a couple of months when it first came out and only got up to about lvl 15 or so with a character in Queynos and one in Freeport. The cities themselves were brilliant and the quests in them were very good, but when you ventured outside the areas were so big and it was a bit frustrating, enjoyed random PUGs in The Wailing Caves though. The main thing that struck me was how much XP was needed to level even at lower levels and the XP debt you got for dying was very annoying, and spoilt it for me.

Yeh, that shared XP debt was a pain, it's been removed now and what you do get is so small as to be almost pointless, coupled with the fact of the increased XP gains leveling can be very fast now.
