I used to play this game back in the day (just offline, didn't have broadband beck then) and I'm wondering if it's worth rebuying to have a go at the online play. Are the player numbers high enough to be worth it? And also, are there other noobs on it or is everyone now very good?

I just ask because I play a lot of CoD on xbox but I feel like having a shooter to play on PC. Might get BF3 but it seems more tactical than I would like. I prefer things like CoD TDM or UT where it's very fast paced action rather than realism.
 
By the sounds of it you'd probably like the new Tribes game.

The real question should be does anyone still play UT99? :cool:
 
A definite YES.

This is the server I play on ut2004://91.121.23.8:7777 - assault/assault race server. But theres populated servers for most of the game modes, onslaught is very popular.

The game is still very much alive and kicking.
 
I used to play UT2004 any spare moment I had years ago!

Did anyone use to play on the Nachos and Beer server, it used to have a great community.

I would be up for a blast with a few of you lot sometime!

Just had a go on that server Eames mentioned, I didn't do too badly considering, but those Deathmatch servers were lethal so I'd have no chance there!
 
I'd be up for joining the odd game now and then. I used to love it on the "House of Fun" server, I think it was called.
 
I'd be up for some games if anyone's organizing a server of sorts, always loved Unreal tournament but it never occurred to me that UT2k4 might still be popular compared to how desolate UT3 is. *scavenges for CD*

I do! Occasionally, but most public servers seem to have weird mods now and some strange lag (i.e ping is normal but doesn't seem as smooth as it used to be).

It's not a particularly taxing game to run - somebody with a decent connection could host a 5x5 server no probs.
 
Played last night randomly. Onslaught is still amazing

Used to host a server at work, still have the setup files somewhere

Nothing will beat the days of Quake III and UT99, nothing! I still play Quake Live quite a bit and occasionally UT99, the skill level of the players who still regularly play these games is top tier.
