Anyone still running a Time Capsule? How do I add more storage to it via USB?

I want to increase the capacity of the Time Capsule, plugged in an APFS formatted drive into the back of the USB port of the Time Capsule but nothing shows up in the settings..

Anyone know how I can go about this?

edit - fixed, it needed to be formatted to Mac Journaled, not APFS.

ahhh I fondly remember my Apple Time Capsules. Such a shame these aren't available anymore.

The original 1TB model (looks like a white Mac Mini) died after a decade in 2017 and i immediately replaced it with the 2TB tower version. At the time it was the best wireless router I have as it was 5hz because my old BT router was 2.4ghz.

I like how it can back up over the network cable rather than taking up a USB port.

I now have wifi6 with a new router but I still like the Time Capsule. Granted, I’ve never looked into whether you can use Time Machine into a NAS.
