Anyone still use and like vista ?

It really needed SP1 to make it anyway decent given the amount of problems it had at release but wasn't that bad once it was patched.

Still have it on my 2nd gaming PC. Runs like a dog even with a quad cpu and 4gb ram and SP2 or maybe Im too use to the speed of Windows 7.

I never did have a problem with Vista. I think because I bought a branded PC that had hardware picked for Vista that I had less problems than most. Like I had no driver issues or the like which many people did. I'm not that much of a gamer (I play some but not many) and don't do things like encoding so it being a 'resource hog' wasn't an issue for me.

I understand other peoples issues with it somewhat but on a personal level it was a fine OS that did what I needed. It is hard for me to say if windows 7 is better because I'm using it on much better and faster hardware. The main thing 7 has for me is a better search function. Such a small thing but now if I use say XP (hardly anyone I know uses Vista) I can't believe how many menus I need to navigate just to do simple things.

I think Vista got off to a bad start and never really recovered in peoples minds. It is no where near as bad as some people claim.

I still have it on my laptop and find it is a very usable OS.
Since I put a Momentus XT drive in the laptop it is faster at booting up than my desktop.

I use it on my workstation since Feb 2007. Same install, never formatted.

It's a perfectly fine OS. Anyone that says otherwise is an idiot.

W7 is fundamentally the same OS which benefited from newer hardware and better device drivers. Vista was ahead of its time, but suffered due to the age old "bad first impressions".

Vista runs great on my Laptop after applying SP3 (or Windows 7 as its more commonly known!! :D )

Yeah, my HP laptop (see sig) acme with Vista HP64 which I changed to Vista Ultimate64 (Technet), it was okay, relatively stable, but the moment I put Win7 HP64 on it it ran like a dream!! :)

I used Vista from Nov 2006 until Win 7 was released. You're right, Vista was ahead of it's time, but I wouldn't like to go back. The main reason for this are the very small UX changes they've made in 7. They don't change how well the OS does core functions, but the changes get rid of all those niggly interface annoyances that you don't realise are so annoying until they're gone.

This..

But I'm too used to the niceties in Windows 7 to ever go back to using Vista. Snapping windows to the screen edge being the main one.

Vista is no Windows ME like some people make it out to be.

Also, +1 to what Burnsy said

I think the problem with Vista was that it promised so much and delivered so little over Windows XP. They were talking about new kernels, file systems etc. and when it finally did arrive (late), it had none of that. Benchmarks showed it ran slower than XP in some situations and that just wasn't acceptable for a new OS.

The genuine question was asked - "why should I buy this over XP" and Microsoft had few answers. They even resorted to releasing games specifically designed to only work on Vista to try and get people to buy into it. Remember Halo 2?

Now we all run W7 and like it, but it's a shame it took so long to get there...

I'm so glad my slow upgrades allowed me to skip over Vista, I find doing even simple tasks on it frustrating as everything seems to have been hidden.

I easily prefer XP and Win7 as they "just work"

Replace XP with 98 and replace Vista with XP, same story, it's just the transition period from old tech to new tech

True that, although it's something I'm a bit young to remember.

Thing was, XP did at least add new features - a new filesystem for example.

Vista had to drag the desktop OS into the 21st Century and got a lot of bad press for it, not least as it was dealing with much lower specced hardware at the time. Windows 7 has been a huge success and almost universally loved, however i do believe that Vista had to "take the hit" first. I'm pretty sure that if W7 had been released instead of Vista back in 2006/7?) then the world would have moaned about Windows 7 instead...

I use Vista on my work computer and 7 on my home PC, I don't really notice that much of a performance difference. I've never had any problems with Vista.
My colleague who was XP on his home PC hates Vista though

Was going to say Vista is fine, but then I was working on a vista laptop and it decided to BSOD when getting to welcome screen.. Now to safe mode to see whats wrong with it. :p

No and no.

I used to defend it but once windows 7 came along I couldn't help but wonder why the performance was so much better.

There is nothing wrong with Vista now, Microsoft have done a lot of tweeks to SP1, and SP2. Vista pre SP1 was no different to Win 7, it was only SP1, and a bug to IE7, which was to give Vista a bad name. I still run it on my other machine, but if someone was to say, which is better, Vista, or Win 8 Developer Preview, then I would say, Vista.:D

Vista was always ok (I have 3 legit licences on 2 different PC's at home). But I recently bought Windows 7 Ultimate & that is a lot faster on boot & overall the best OS MS have ever created to date. I can cold boot Windows7 in under 20 secs including Bios checks & its useable then as well which is stunning considering I do not even use Hibernation

FYI: Vista Ultimate is actually quicker to do everything than the other Vista versions not sure why but on identical hardware the Ultimate version is certainly quicker ;)
