I am doing a 1 year access course in Health Care professionals, with my aim to go to uni to be a mental health nurse.

I had my first proper class today doing psychology(A level) and found it very intimidating as it was like learning/understand a new language

Have tried having a good read for the last few hours but its not really going in !

Could anyone kind enough help me out and just explain in your own easy to understand words basically what each topic mean with maybe a brief example, so I can understand............. It would be so so appreciated!!! am not being lazy, just lacking in some confidence and looking for a little help if anyone can help me :)!!! Will £5 paypal you for your troubles

Structuralism

Functionalism

Behaviorism

Humanism

Cognitivism

Anymore you can think of ?

Hey, nightrider1470. Don't worry about the terminology too much at the start. I can bet more than a fiver that most people in your class will struggle to fully appreciate major theoretical thought movements in the field of psychology, from its founding to present. :)

Check out Vonhelmet's links, and if you are still unsure, it may be best to grab a cheap paperback dictionary on the subject for the long term. (yep, as you guessed, most subjects need one!) The one done by Penguin Press is not bad and Oxford's version is also quite clear. Let us know how you get on.

Furthermore, Youtube has more than one clip outlining some interesting experiments in the field. Normally extracts from documentaries and such. As far as examples go, those would be some of the best and easiest to understand.
