Anyone suffer with upper back issues?

Just lately my upper back just below my ribs has been giving me some jip. Can't figure out what i've done to set it off as normally suffering from sciatica it would be my lower back if anything so this is a suprise as its not something i've ever had problems with.

On one side its great because as soon as my alarm goes off i can't spend more than 5mins in bed so i am up and ready for work.

The pain usually subsides after a couple of hours so i am wondering if it is actually a strained muscle and it might fix itself or if its worth a trip to the quacks (Haven't been in 20yrs)
 
I had a similar problem for years, the pain would subside a few hours after I got up. For me it turned out it was my bed. Once I changed it and got a better supportive bed then no more pain. The ironic thing was my original bed was supposed to an orthopedic bed, even had it on the label.

Duh i just had a thought out matress is coming onfor 8yrs + now i hope its not that i paid £600 for it! I've been spending a lot of time at my desk lately could be posture related too, I don't tend to slouch though and i get up and walk around often. Might be i've got unlucky since i recently had a chair that was terrible "gamer type" thing and its probably coming from use of that. Hoping it subsides soon doing my head in walking around like a crooked witch first thing on a morning.
 
I have terrible posture which has resulted is badlyarched shoulders. I'm using a resistant band (from the physio) to re-stregthen my rotator cuffs to ease the pain I get in my left shoulder and upper back.

On the NHS now you can self refer to a physio, why don;t you try that?

Seriously considering it now as its been around 3 weeks every morning shuffling out of bed. I am about to start going back to the gym hopefully that will loosen me up some more as i love that bench press.

I found my back troubles started after I stopped training, probably muscle imbalance made worse my muscle entropy. I suffer from anxieyt terribly now and mostly fear working out, which doesn't help (it also means I'm tense a lot during the day).
Now that I've had the physio I do feel a bit better, but I need to keep at it.

Do you have a Homer Simpson sofa spot?

Is your bed of good quality, price is not always a determination of quality and 600 quid is far from big money for a bed. If you bought it recently and pain started after it then that is likely your issue.

Currently sitting on a secret lab titan. Its actually helped my posture. I had a rather crappy £90 racing chair which was god awful i might be stuck with the after effects of that since i only got this chair last week.

I think our bed has been through the mill with young child bouncing on it and some of the slats have long broken and somehow vanished so that might well mean its time to change it.

I rarely sit on the sofa to be fair as i am not home enough to relax and when i do its usually from my home office tend to sit for 1-2hrs before i get moving around for 10-15mins.

Sorry to hear that. My daughter broke her arm whilst i was at the gym, shouldn't affect me but i have a mental block where i blame myself for not being there the day she did it. Got the call from the wife i've never rushed home so fast. I need to get over that block as i think getting back to it will speed up my recovery rather than hinder it.

Gaming chairs are not great for posture, frankly. All looks and padding does not a good seat make. I know, I spent LOADS of time reviewing them.

35 is around the age where my back started to ping, mine was due to my office chair being frankly rubbish causing me to suffer a twisted pelvis which I kept have to have fixed...only for it, over time, to go again.

I fixed the chair and I have not had back issues for years.

Try a different chair, see if it fixes it. If not, bed but as said, go get it checked out. I recommend a mctimoney chiropractor. Fixed my issues a treat, not cracking and snapping, all gentle.

Yeah I find with a lot of gaming/PC chairs I'm scrunching my shoulders up high - which if I'm not careful causes upper back discomfort I believe it can cause issues with one of the arteries in your left shoulder as well or something.
 
I think you should have gone for a proper ergonomic chair, rather than another gaming chair. All these racer/gaming chairs are just cheapo Chinese office chairs underneath the fancy looks. The backs will just be plywood with some foam for comfort, but the back wont move with your body and support your back properly.

I was getting some discomfort in my back and realised it was from always slouching in my crappy office chair. I got a second hand Herman Miller Mirra on ebay for £200 and its amazingly comfortable and supports my back so that I don't slouch down. It took a bit of getting used to, but after a week or so my back felt better and now a year or so on it is all but gone. See how it goes with your current chair, but if you still get discomfort it might be worth making the switch.
 
As per some of the other replies - what is your chair like at work (assuming you work at a desk)? What is your mattress like/how old is it etc..?

How often do you exercise? Maybe you should build some muscle if you're generally an inactive person.

Go see your GP and then maybe get referred to a Physio etc.. if needed.

Don't bother going to see a Chiropractor (IMHO) they're quacks.
 
Go see a doctor to rule out major issues, get a couple of dumbbells and start exercising as often as possible. Or join a gym. At 35 you are still at the peak of your bone density and most issues are caused by lifestyle choices.
 
Go to the doctor really or sit there googling it and convince yourself you have ten minutes to live

It was half five in the afternoon, not like they are going to get a doctors appointment at that time is it! What better alternative than an internet forum :)
