Anyone switched from O2/Sky to BT? How was it?

Been with O2 for years and recently was switched over to Sky. Nothing much has really changed if I'm honest. DL/UL speeds are almost exactly the same and I've noticed no real difference in browsing. But we've received a letter from BT with a broadband offer which seems very good value. My exchange is due to be upgraded to FTTC in May so would be looking to go for BT Infinity when that happens. Got two choices - stay where I am for now and switch to Infinity in May or move now to BT and switch to Infinity when the time comes. Just thinking it might be less hassle getting switched over to FTTC with BT if I'm with them already. As I said, no real changes with Sky and whether folk can understand or agree with it or not, the way the entire O2/Sky move came about still leaves a slightly bitter taste in my mouth.

Anyway, all that aside, just wondered if anyone had been in the same boat and switched to BT recently, how did it all go and what are your thoughts so far using BT? The offer they have sent is :-

  • Free Home Hub
  • Unlimited Broadband
  • Unlimited Free Weekend UK Calls
  • Free BT Sport

All for £8 per month for 12 months. It then jumps to £16 per month (which is what I'm paying now) and you are tied to the contract for a further 6 months.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I would wait and see what happens...

The only reason I say this is that your exchange maybe upgraded but that doesnt mean you can get FTTC straight away.. My exchange has been upgraded to FTTC for 2 years yet my local street cab is and does not look like it will be changed so I am stuck with ADSL.

have you had a look near your street and seen if there is a fibre cab near your old cab?

Seems easier to stay with what you have and then just do one change to an FTTC provider rather than chaging now and then changing / upgrading again to FTTC. if what you have now works stick with it.

Was O2 now Sky, didn't haven't urge to move after hearing of the change but now the broadband is £5 more expensive a month as they are charging me for not having a phone or tv package with them! I'm currently moving to BT, i'll let you know how it goes (still a few weeks away yet).

Not much of an increase but it's the principal really.

My phone line has been down for 3 weeks, 1 engineer came out in the first week and told us he couldn't help because he was an underground cable specialist; Before he left he reported that the problem was with an overground line. A week later we call BT and they say the fault is resolved... really. OpenReach get back to BT about the fault and they don't notice it so it automatically gets set to resolved and we have to wait another week before someone can come out. Shocking customer service.

You may not pay BT as much for broadband but you do pay with their terrible customer support. I'd much rather pay a lot more to a smaller business that provides good customer service.

Just so you know SKY offer FTTC so you can switch to it with them if your premises is linked to the network.

It does not matter who you are with if this happens as your still using BT's network...

Mine is currently cheaper than before.

£1.50 per month + £5 For no sky phone + 2.50 for no TV = £9

I asked them today, and they've said I've got that discount until 9/2/2015

Once the discount expires I'm jumping to another ISP.
