Anyone trained offshore before?

Thanks for the reply, this is starting to look promising.

I do sometimes try self study but at best find it 'ok', just my personal preference. I find it good to have a tutor on hand to answer all the questions and queries you have, also removing distractions. IMO, the official training courses look better on your CV aswell.

My org will be starting to implement 2k8 early next year, just need to balance the dates/costs/options. Sounds good for the price, have a few days to a week in India also for a break if possible.

Cheers

not me personally but a guy i worked with went to india with koenig for a week and passed the mcse (summer 2008) and did the vista exam the same day he was due to fly back (and passed). the place itself was ok (delhi site), very good trainer - the surrounding area is dire - you see a lot of poverty - and the food/water is a bit dodgy - he was ill for a couple of days and stuck with rice the rest of the time he was there, they met him from the train and looked after him... the FTSE 250 company I worked for are sending more guys there...

personally i stuided at home over a course of a year and passed the exam (mcse) that way - and applied what i was learning in work - i think you learn more than just doing a 'paper mcse' - i've seen people pass these exams and not even touched a physical server!

Good job I'm not a 'paper mcse' then : )

Chap I know went to the US with Ambilogic as the exchange rate was gd at the time, he highly recommended them

Thanks for the reply. A long shot, but do you know what the course content/delivery was like and how much (if any) prior reading there was, 10 days to do the study I really want to seems a very short time.

Thankyou very much wabbit347 for your detailed reply. I've done various (official) courses, but only in the UK.

I suppose only two more (basic) questions then:

Would you use them again?

Would you recommend them?

Thanks again.

It's not possible, nor possible off just doing the courses without experience behind the wheel (or not worth it if you did somehow manage it).

I wouldn't want to do it in a few days though, the courses on offer are exactly the same length as the official MOC ones in the UK and anywhere else in the world (and are those courses). Nor would I be doing an MCSE from scratch, now in my 11th year in IT and have been an MCSE since 2002.

You can however select shorter course durations if you're already experienced and want to cram in a shorter time to save money and time off work plus costs.

Check the site out, it almost sounds too good to be true.

Undergroove, thanks for very helpful post.

Yes it helps very much. Your post along with others have gave me all the info I need to make a decision. I'll be looking to use Keonig late first quarter/early second next year.

Thanks again.

I wouldn't fancy studying in 30+ temps in Deli, too many distractions in Goa, and Shimla pushes up the costs.

Dehradun it will be! Was it the country house apartments you stayed at? Just looking at them on the website now, all looks pretty decent.

Skiba, thanks for the reply.

What courses(s) did you do, if you don't mind me asking? How does it compare with UK training you've attended?

Ricky1981 I've looked at firebrand and you're right, they want more than double what Koenig are charging. 6k + for the course(s) I'd like to do. This alone discounts them, but good to know they're good for future if the opportunity comes my way. Intresting regarding the Koenig 'braindump' solution - maybe I'll give them a miss afterall.

Skiba thanks again, looks like I'll be checking out ambilogiv, which Ev0 suggested previosuly. Given the current climate maybe I'll get a discount : )
