Anyone tried four R9 290 in crossfire?

Not tried but make sure you have the PSU capacity. Minimum of 275w tdp for 1100 watts just the cards.
Also just one was a house fire. Blower style expect serious downclocking and if you don't have excellent airflow. Liquid is probably the way

Best avoided unless you want to spend a lot of money on PSUs, a suitable motherboard, watercooling and very very very big case.

4 way crossfire is not supported in any modern DX12 games either.

I had a 295x2 and a 290x at one point, that was over 2 years ago though.

I think maybe Kaapstead or AMD Matt might have had a 4x 290 GPU's at one point.

I would have no idea what Crossfire scaling is like now though. You probably need at least a 1200W PSU, maybe more.

I still have got 4 290Xs.:D

And you need over 1800 watts to power the system if it is overclocked.

I am assuming there is no real day to day use for these cards so just carry on using them for crypto.

Was tempted to pair them with a ThreadRipper build for a none gaming workstation :D

One to avoid.

4-way crossfire will be non-stop headaches. On the PcPer interview streamed live earlier today the AMD fella said that they are no longer in control of crossfire with the newer api's so it will be down to the game developers. Also, Nvidia have officially dropped 3 and 4 way support with Pascal gpu's so that should give you an idea of the direction things are going. With faster single gpu's coming to market 2, 3 and 4 way set ups are becoming a thing of the past. Save yourself a lot of agro and sell em while you can and use the money to buy a faster single card.

Only ever had 1 290 at once. A guy at work has 3 290's but he uses them mostly for mining. He only had 1 before he started that.

I have got dual 7990 and have tried 7990 with 7970 as well as 3 way 7970 and gtx580 4 way sli. Also have 6990+6950 unlocked to 6970. You just can't beat the feeling of the hole house being warmed up by a single PC :) the amount of heat and power and noise is monstrous and is kind of like driving a 7l v8 muscle car with 900hp. It may not be efficient or even the fastest setup in most cases, but when all 3/4 cards are going fully pelt it's just incredible :)

Tbh I don't even use single cards setups very often any more. 2 is just a baseline setup for me. Last few setups I had have been 970 2 way, rx480 3 way and r9 fury 2 way.

All I can say is rx480 4 way or maybe a 2/3 Vega will be next on the list.
