Anyone Tried Re-attaching a IHS?

Hi guys i haven't yet taken the IHS off my cpu but was curious in doing so (i like fiddling ), but just incase i cocked something up and temps wern't as i expected is it possible to re-attach it? has anyone done this or know if it is possible?

AKAIK, you can re-attach it with builder's silicone (that white/clear stuff they use on the sides of bath tubs & sinks)

yea, its pretty easy to do.

Lining up the IHS is tricky though, esp as i like to make sure it has a good contact by putting it under a heatsink which tends to move te IHS slightly

ahh ty have you done this tom? did it change the temps at all?

i have used it without a IHS as i had an opty with badcontact and the load temps were 60 without the IHS they came down to 35.

reattached you can get the same 35-37 sort of figures with a good attachment

hmm would you think it would be beneficial for me to do it? as i currently have idle temps of around 28's and loads of around 38-40?

probably not no, you wont gain much mhz if any
