New Debian based distro, 1.0 was just announced last week.

Seems to be flying under the radar at the moment, sounds promising though; closely based on Debian, including work from some of the Debian team members.

I'm downloading the GNOME iso at the moment and hope to get it installed tomorrow. Would love to hear if anyone hear has any experience with it yet though to share?

So had a quick play around with the live CD.

On the upside (and unlike Debian) it immediately recognised my network card and allowed me to go online.

On the downside (and just like Debian) the provided ATi driver failed to recognise my AMD graphics card and so I was limited to running in 1280x1024 resolution. That's easy enough to sort out by downloading current drivers once I do a proper install though.

First impressions:

Boots fast for a live CD, faster than most other distros I've tried. I'm happy to say that once booted it also feels fast and responsive, even running the fairly resource intensive GNOME 3 desktop. I like the oceanic theme, complements the "clean" feel of the GNOME DE nicely.

It feels quite "bare bones"; doesn't ship with flash, and the app folder is pretty empty. Adding new apps is done through the standard GNOME 3 add/remove programs command rather than through the software centre you'd find on Mint or Ubuntu.

I have to say it doesn't feel as polished as other Mint/Ubuntu alternatives such as Elementary, but I guess that's not its target audience. Come to think of it, I'm not sure who exactly is its target audience; perhaps people who want the security of Debian without it being quite so constrictive?

Anyway first impressions have been more positive than negative, still feels a little "rough around the edges" but I think it's one worth keeping an eye on.
