Went into jessops to kill some time yesterday and played with one. I really liked the focal range and the price, but looking at some of the test shots it looks pretty soft outside of the centre at the wide end, which is the bit I'm most concerned about. I only had a few minutes with it, but is this the general consensus on it?

Is the canon 10-20mm much sharper at nearly twice the price?

The Sigma was what I was originally looking at actually, but dpreview seems to put Tamron as the sharper lens, with less falloff and distortion (but they acknowledge the soft edges) . The test shot I did with the Tamron was at f8 and although I was impressed by the sharpness in the centre, it seemed very soft at the edges, and not great in-between. I have to say though, after trying it, I just HAVE to have a 10mm lens.

Really? The Tokina 11-16mm sounds like a good compromise of quality and budget. I might have to look into that some more. The extra wide angle and sharpness are the main things I'm after, as this is mainly going to be for landscape/architectural shooting (what else lol).
