anyone understand disk drive problems with P3's?

Hi I own.a ps3 which I bought which had a disk drive error. Any way I bought a new drive from the auction site with the seller telling me there was a high chance it would work with my PS3..

I installed it and it loads the disk and I can see the disk icon spinning but doesnt boot it. The drive is fine I am sure but am thinking the drive isnt supported by my PS3,.or maybe the logic board isnt the correct one married to my motherboard. The fact the disk icon spins does that give any hint to what is causing the problem?

I bought.it many months a go and never got round to fixing it but I would like try. Any advice or help would be so appreciated! As its my daughters

Try connecting the board to your new drive or see if theres any Ps3 drivers knocking about on the internet that your new drive takes.

Im sure they work the same way as ms drives that they require there own fw to play there stuff.

Is there any way to find out which model drive this is? it doesnt haven any model number I can see, unless I need to open it up more?

Worked out the drive says kem 400aaa - please remember though this wasnt the drive that originally came with my Ps3 but one I bought thinking it would work with it as a replacement

The model of the Ps3 is the G03 version

According to searching they seem to match, but mine in the single lens version being kem 400aaa and wondering if I needed the double lens version and ordered the wrong one, or wouldnt it matter which lens version it was

I would do a bit more reading on the lens problem first just to make sure there compatible, if there fine to use then you'll need to find out what FW the Ps3 drive uses and flash it.
