Anyone updated the MSI 7900GTO Bios to GTX

I'm watching this space to see how you get on. They're only on offer another few days and I've not made my mind up if to go down this route or not.

Hopefully the flash will let you run your pair in SLi with decent memory speed.

So if they go BANG you won't upgrade? :D

The only thing that puts me off is reliability. Being detuned GTX's .....?

That would also bother me, the GTO Might be a card that didn't do GTX Speeds very well :(

I am running mine at GTX speeds. No problems. Card hits 50c full load.

Coolbits decided what was best, I just pushed it a little further. Most of these cards have overclocked well.

Will only flash bios if I want to SLI but cant get hold of another GTO.

the 7900 series have a habbit of randomly dieing. if you change the bios and can;t change it back to stock your going to have problems with an rma if they check the bios on the card.

OK just tried do update the bios and I get "GPU mismatch" when using nvflash and the msi gtx bios

I used "nvflash 7900gtx.rom" looks like its checking the device id

I need some good advice here before I will proceed.

The original GTO thread that appeared last week (Thursday I think) had links to a forum where people were flashing their GTO cards... I will try and find it for you (if you haven't already) :)

How do you know we have 1.1 memory? Did you look yourself?

I remember some confusion over which core these cards have. I think Gibbo later stated that the cards do not have GTX cores, even though they were thought to have at first. Something to do with poor communication with MSI, so their product spec was initially wrong.

That might explain the "GPU mismatch" message :(

Cheers m8

With regard to the memory I have not checked but I have seen a post with extacly the same box/codes that did have samsung 1.1 so i'm assuming it does however Detect optimal is only giving 708 on the memory. Does the bios boost the memory voltage?

my one overclocks using nvidia utility to 693/796 ( core to 750 and 693 for shaders + rop)

Using ati tool for the memory crashed at 819 (1638 Mhz)

Its my second day with the card so hopefully still room to improve ;)

Any progress Asgard? Still 100% stable here. Will leave it at 750core/800mem for a few more days, then try pushing it further. Hardly any change in temps at all, most likely due to the great stock cooler and the airflow in my case :)

Still waiting for some definate info on hwo to do it. Currently get GPU mismatch. For once I will probably be cautious of doing it until I know what exactly the Bios does with regard to voltages. I had the memory on my SLI setup running at 800 and it ran 3D mark 06 ok. Looks like a 11.5K ish score in 3D mark 06 if I crank my 6600 to 3.8.

I am interested in attempting this too. However, if I can run two of these GTO cards at GTX speeds, that is fine by me. Knowing my luck I would end up breaking something if I start messing with the bios.

That said, I guess there would be no point flashing the bios, unless I wanted to push the card past GTX speeds... which right now, I don't need to do. It runs everything and I mean EVERYTHING fine at max on 1280x960/1024.

:D :D

Guess you could flash them so they read as GTX cards in Windows and other software... if you wanted to pretend you forked out the money for a GTX card, which someone has already mentioned before :)

If you flashed one and got another GTO later, you would have to flash that one too so you can use them together in SLI mode?
