Anyone updated their Nokia using the new firmware tool?

Hmm i'm a bit undure here. I just downloaded the auto-updater tool for firmware form the Nokia site. I clicked "Next" and it then detected my Nokia N70 and then proceed to automatically update (without asking if it was okay to proceed!). My phone showed some activity and then rebooted but after this all has gone quiet. it's been around half an hour and the updating program isn't showing any sign that it's finished... there's no progress bar to speak of to give any visible indication of what's going on but there's no "finished" message either... only an option to "cancel" which I obviously don't want to do if there's the rish that it'll knacker my phone.

Is this normal? Any advice? :confused:
 
I used this the other day on my 6680, its not the speediest of programs. And make sure you use pcsuite to backup the phone before you do it (bit late now i suppose). I'm sure the screen on mine went off while it was updating and I think there was a status bar also.

I did a full backup first, and set it off to update again while I bezzed off to Asda. Come back and still nothing... all contacts and messages are still there. :confused:
 
I have just sent off my application for Numpty of The Year Award 2006.

I didn't notice there was that little tick box next to the legal agreement and I hadn't pressed it therefore the "Update" button wasn't activated.

it's now chugging along... i'll let you know how it goes.

Well, after this flash I can't seem to get my phone connected to the PC via the cable! :confused:

It loads the drivers for th Nokia N70 and then doesn't show the phone as connected or active... so I can't synchronise or anything. Aghhh!

Will have to order a bluetooth dongle I suppose, but how annoying... :(

On the plus side the camera seems better and everything is snappy... will wait till I get my progs loaded before giving the final verdict though. :)
 
Is this tool just for the N70?

Looking for something to update my 5140, but without splitting my bank in half. :o

You need to upgrade to the latest nokia pc suite to ;)
 
My housemates N70 disconnected half way through the update which the help site said it was normal.

But then when trying to turn it on after saying update failed, the lights will come on but it's just a blank screen and it doesn't respond to any buttons at all.

She had to take it to the CPW today to get it repaired over the weekend so be careful.

Also she had connected the phone via a USB extension cable so who knows if that has anything to do with it as well.
 
I have a 2gb MiniSD Card in my N80 (with an old version of firmware) & it works fine.

Are you sure its a legit 2GB card - and not a Chinese made (auction site) one ? Which is actually a smaller card formatted at 2GB and very unreliable.
