I'm about to move and am thinking about my new internet connection. I already have a plan with 3 which offers unlimited data and for only £5 more I can get tethering with that as well. That seems like a reasonable deal for my ISP as it would mean that I don't need to bother with BT line rental and installation of broadband.

Does anyone else use a mobile phone with tethering as their main internet connection on their home computer? My Nexus 4 seems to support both USB tethering and Bluetooth tethering which should be enough for me.

I have a VPN I can use which should be fine for use on the mobile network to make sure no one snoops on my internet browsing.

i thought 3 had limited tethering now to 2gb or something?

Really? I didn't know that. I assumed that you got the full unlimited data and 3G connection with the tethering service. If it is limited to 2GB of data that would be a real shame and would leave me in a bit of a tight spot.

i was on the one plan (unlimited data/tehtering etc) and when i went for my upgrade, basically they said that they could no longer offer the unlimited tethering as more and more people are getting 4G and it was basically costing them too much.

its still unlimited on my phone to download things though. so now, i just download to my phone, then send it to my tablet when i want to watch a film.

They are gradually rolling this out, so as a new customer, im pretty sure this would apply to yourself.

Here is the charges breakdown it says a few times its now only 2 gb when tethered.

Darn. That really sucks. I guess I'll have to have BT Infinity or Virgin Broadband installed then. That's going to cost me an arm and a leg in comparison.
