For as low as £150 supposedly you can appoint a concierge service to deal with problems you don't have time for. Does anyone actually use them?

The only trouble with services like this is you don't just need to be able to afford the service itself, but also anything you're likely to use them for without question.

For example booking holidays, I like to shop around, find good deals, etc. That simply wouldn't happen if you told your concierge to book you a week's holiday; they'd just go to their preferred supplier and do it. For people that don't care if it costs £5,000 or £10,000 that's fine.

I have a Concierge at my apartment complex in the City but my Butler takes care of everything back at the Manor house.

I did some work with a company that provides concierge services. I heard some interesting stories:

- Someone once rang them and said that they needed an elephant for their son's birthday. To make matters worse, the birthday was the next day. The concierge service managed to find one.

- Someone once rang up and said they'd had a dream about a pair of shoes. They described the shoes and the concierge service managed to find a pair that matched the description.

It sounded like most requests were rich Arabs and Russians wanting to hire escorts though (a service which they don't provide). :p

I've got one too... but during the day he's basically the maintenance guy and at night time its just some random agency bloke who does security patrols etc... I reckon they'd be naff at booking holidays but they do sign for deliveries etc...

Concierge services that you pay a subscription for are probably only any good for booking event tickets or making restaraunt reservations at places that are officially fully booked/sold out etc...

I think for odd admin jobs/information requests you'd be better off hiring a virtual PA in India - as someone has mentioned - if you want to book a holiday etc.. your concierge will likely use their contracted providers whereas you can get some Indian to check all the discount sites for you for flights/hotels, give you a list of hotels matching your criteria etc..etc..
