I am considering buying one. Primarily because I have a massive TV and a ****e monitor, so i would like on occasion to be able to plug the PC into my TV, and I think a joypad would be the most convenient option for gaming sitting on my couch.
I have never used a joypad on a PC game before however and I imagine a lot of games would not be great with one e.g FPS and strategy fames.

Does anyone have any experience of using a joypad, and if so which games would you recommend work well with it?

i was thinking GTA IV?

Yes. Most GFWL games are great with the 360 pad, and more. GTA IV is best on a 360 pad and keyb/mouse imo. I drive with a pad, switch to keyb/mouse on foot or when aiming in car.

3rd person games i tend to use my joypad for, GTA IV like you suggested. Things like Assassins Creed and Batman AA i felt were much better to control with a joypad. I used if for driving games as well up until i got my wheel.

Well it's plug and play and most games recognise it immediately, it's very comfy and is propably better build quality than the logitech.

I don't even use them anymore but back in the day used them for things like arcade racing games and mostly sports games.

I've had my pc hooked up to my tv for the last couple of years, and play a lot of games on it sat on the couch with a wireless xbox 360 pad. The likes of GTA IV, GRID, Fallout 3, Batman AA, Mirrors Edge, Pro Ev Soccer all run flawlessly like this. Plus, unlike the console versions, they don't look and run like a sack of crap. Ideal world really - the comfort of gaming from the sofa but with all the extra visual bells and whistles (plus mods too!) that the consoles can't handle.

As already mentioned, xbox 360 pad support is excellent in nearly all GFWL games. No faffing about or re-mapping buttons at all really.

i'm gonna re-invest (sold my old one to my ex-flatmate) in the 360 controller for windows, used it for games i bought off steam like arkham asylum and assassin's creed as i had already playd them on the xbox. i've not tried any other controllers for games but i'd easily recommend the 360 controller for pc gaming.

I grabbed a wireless adapter for the extra controller that came with my 360, it's an awesome PC pad and works well with racing games like Dirt 2 etc.

Only been using the wireless 360 gamepad for about 4 years now on my HDTV. For games that support it (most made nowadays although Bioshock2 is not one of them!) it makes sitting in comfort with your PC hooked up to a HDTV the best gaming experience you can have ;)

If you find a game which does not use the gamepad just download the free version of xpadder as that lets you map kb+mouse to gamepad controls.

Obviously most RTS, Strategy & some FPSes will not be worth playing on a gamepad though.......
