Anyone use a standard zoom on full frame?

I've got an 85mm and a 50mm prime for my D610 and F80 but i recently started using the 28-80 kit lens that came with the F80 for a few things and it's come in quite useful. Only problem is it's not amazing, especially on the 24mp sensor of the D610.

I've had a look some newer options like the Nikon 24-70 f2.8, the Tamron 24-70 f2.8 and the Nikon 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 G ED VR. The Tamron seems like the best value for money, especially with VR and the Nikon 24-85 seems ok, especially since it's cheapest. I could afford the Nikon 24-70 but it seems extremely expensive compared to the performance of the others, and it's enormous. Is it really worth the money? In DX land i had a Tamron 17-55 f2.8 and hired the Nikon equivalent for 2 weeks and couldn't really tell the difference apart from cost and build quality.

Does anyone use a zoom lens on their ff body, any recommendations?

Thanks

By "standard" do you mean the cheaper "mass market" lenses as opposed to the higher-end expensive ones?

I know squat about Nikon but I've always believed in the "glass before body" adage. Full frame needs decent glass really.

Sorry, by standard i meant zoom range. So i guess what's considered a normal zoom range as opposed to wide angle (16-35) or telephoto zoom (70-200).

Thanks
