Hi All

Just bought a new Ipod Video today.

and was wondering if anyone uses it to store photos while there out and about ?

Cheers Jet

I looked into this at one point about a year ago. Not sure what the options are now but then Belkin did a card reader that plugged onto the bottom of the iPod. The problem was the reader was dog slow, can't remember exactly but in the 15-30mins per Gb range. On top of that the iPod battery could only handle 1.5Gb or so per charge.

I was looking for something quicker & better lasting so left it at that. No idea if things have improved since.

I have a 30GB iPod (video model) and purchased the Apple iPod Camera Connector at the same time.

The transfer rate (from my 20D with SanDisk Ultra II memory) has been pretty slow (about 6 or 7 minutes to transfer 1GB of RAW files), and it does seem to eat the batteries fairly quickly as well - the inidcator shows about 20% depeleted when 1 GB has been transferred.

This is not a problem for me though as I don't take huge amounts of photos. The device fits a purpose for me - I will only need to transfer photos whilst on holiday, and then I will generally be in a hotel room where a lack of power won't be a problem.

If you are looking for a device to look in the field, my advice would be to look elsewhere at dedicated devices. If you just need a casual backup device to transfer photos whilst on holiday, it may suffice.

£19 for the connector seems a bit steep though, as I paid only $19 for it in the US. Have a look on ebay for a cheaper one perhaps.

Does the job for me, but I rarely fill up my card and need to unload while out and about.

It is slow, and will empty the battery on the iPod.

Thanks for the replies,

I will get the camera adapter as I don't normally fill my 2GB card.

I just want purely as a backup device when on my holidays.
