I just started using Plex medi server and although its doing exactly what I want, theres something thats bugging me.

When I access my video files through my Sony Bravia TV, Plex provides WAAAAAY too many search filters to get to my media.

I only really need the folder option and not A-Z, numbers, Genres, Categories, Previously watched, recently added, date order blah blah blah.

Im all for simplicity, so is there any way of removing these filters ?

Thanks in advance.

I found the exact same problem when browsing Plex on my PS3, it was very hard work. In the end, I got 2 Google Chromecast's anyway which just plug in to my TVs, I just browse Plex on the iPad or Nexus 5 phone, and cast it to the dongle, no messing about :)

I ended up getting rid of it. I have no idea why they put such a ridiculous amount of filters in there as standard.
Who ever needs to browse films by actor, director or decade?!

Anyway I got Universal Media Server instead and it's brilliant. No browser based configuration, bloatware or subscription fees for things I'll never use, and best of all its free.

I did try just using Windows 7 as a DLNA server but I had a nightmare trying to import Mkv files into the Windows media player library so gave up.

I think the "problem" is that you are using the DNLA method through your TV, a genuine Plex client (e.g. Windows, Roku) wouldn't have all those options in your face.

It's not just Plex related as I'm sure I've seen it with other DNLA stuff before.

Whatever the problem is UMS is a much solution for me. Working flawlessly and no messy menus.
It's my first time configuring a wireless media center and I have to say I love modern technology!
I hadn't realised how far things like this had come.

Now all I need is an android app that can turn my Pc off wirelessly when I've finished streaming content from it.

I use unified remote app for switching my computer off or as a mouse and keyboard. It's just a simple remote control program for Android use it on my phone and nexus.

Plex does take an uber amount of configuration and tinkering. I've had it a month now and still can't get certain things to work or load. Saying that, I've yet to find something similar that works right out of the box.

Downloading UMS now to compare.

Darkstar, check out Serviio. Does the same thing as Serviio albeit a different UI on your streaming device and you can disable all those things you talked about with ease.

Been checking it out the past hour en decided to get rid of Plex for Serviio.

I can stop struggling now to get movie thumbnails to appear on my TV as Serviio done it out of the box. With Plex I've been struggling for weeks to do the same thing.
