So I want to setup plex but I don't want my pc to be running all the time as the media server. So a guy at work suggested getting a raspberry pi and installing rasplex. I have a roku 3 box plugged into my tv so want to connect into that. So am I right in thinking if I get the pi and a wifi adapter then the roku box will pick it up if I install the plex client on it??

Also does anyone know if you can use m3u playlists on rasplex?

Thanks

You're setting yourself up for a world of hurt.

In addition, your friend from work is wrong - Rasplex is only a client.

You need to run a Plex Media Server on something that's always on (like a server) or at least you don't mind having on when you're watching something (like your PC).

In addition to having all your video files accessible from this device it also needs enough grunt to "serve" the files to your various clients - like your Roku3.

While the RPi2 may well soon be able to support this setup it's something that someone has only just got working in the last month (https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/145717-i-have-pms-running-on-raspberry-pi-2/).

But, if you fancy doing something that's fairly bleeding edge, here's how to do it!
