I know these are big in the Linux and OSX worlds. But they've always been a bit niché under Windows.

What is the best utility to enable this (and do it well) under Vista/W7?

You mean spaces (OSX term) or multiple desktops? I'd be very grateful for a way to enable them under windows 7, I really do miss them compared to my unix workstation.

I tend to treat them as an either/or feature with multiple monitors myself, I use multiple screens with Windows and a single large display with multiple desktops under unix.

One of the best feature I found in Ubuntu (and other linux distros).

Does Windows have a feature like this? I've never seen it. I seem to remember (rather faintly) that nVidia drivers used to come with an application that would allow you to switch to multiple desktops.

There was a powertoy for XP which enabled them, it was a fairly rubbish implementation but they did exist. I've just assumed it doesn't work with Win7

As above, I like the one in Linux Mint, but I've never found a flawless Windows implementation of it.

I've tried about 6 different ones over the years, but keep reverting to 'normal'

I prefer keeping windows as vanilla as possible now, the less crap you have running alongside explorer, the better (as you know)
