I have a 360 and a wii and its really doing me head in swapping out the component cables from behind the tv, I have looked into getting a splitter so that 3 outputs can be connected to the 1 input.

There seems to be 2 styles, 1 is like this -

and the other is like this -

You can pick up the first 1 for £10-£15 and the 2nd for £40+, obviously you can tell which is the best one for looks and quality but my question is - does anyone have any experience with the 1st switch, I dont really want to spend loads on a switch but also dont wany any video/audio quality loss either.

Certain sellers on the auction site claim for there to be no signal loss but with real thin output cables and non gold plated connecters im not so sure.

I would stear clear of cheaper one tbh. I got something very similar for HDMI and it was cheap off the bay, but for some strange reason I have to turn my PS3 on if I want to watch DVD's upscaled through the HDMI on my Phillips DVD player!!!

I read something like that with a double jack that plugs into each component input on the tv which allows for 2 inputs not 1, there is apparently an issue with having to turn the idle machine off at the wall.

Even though you had issues with the HDMI switch, did you notice any quality loss on the audio/video signal?

None at all but then it's a digital signal as opposed to analogue so less likely to lose any quality.

I use 3 Y shape phono splitters and after a lot of scrutinising I notice no loss of quality (This is coming from the guy that hates *** inteference seen on the 360's VGA output).

Do you have to have the idle machine turned off at the wall, I was looking at these, you get 5 double jacks/y splitters in a pack.
The guy selling them said that there was issues with it switching sound if both machines were turned on at the wall.

Use one of the first type on my 32" Sony with no problems at all - Well worth the small amount for no hassle with switching between units.

No, but they are plugged into separate surge protected sockets. I also use optical on my 360 to an amp and the Wii phono leads to an amp.

I have the cheaper one for my 360 and Ps2 with no quality loss. I did try it for me Wii and DVD player but had some major interference. So I'm going to be getting a Joytech 245c for that job. :)

I have the cheap top one. I dunno if its just me but even running just the 360 through it shows a degraded image. Not so noticeable on lower resolutions from Wii or PS2. I'm also experiencing random screen.. glitches.. like a fraction of a second flash of screen tear.

edit: I forgot it doesn't do the flashy thing anymore since I replaced the duff artifacting Wii. Wierd as I'm certain it did it even through the 360 and PS2. Well one less problem then :p

I have one of these

XCM Multi-Consoles Component Cable V2

got ot from a poular asian site

Works great, only problem i had with it was the length of the cable so i had to re-arrange my unit but not degridation in picture quality at all, plus its cheap as chips :)

My splitter (first picture in original post) turned up today, first impressions were that it was quite a bit bigger than it looked in the pic, probly 2*2inch, not quite sure what I was expecting :p The cable thickness was equal to that of the official wii component cable and milimetres thinner than the official 360 component cable, and as we know it doesnt have gold plated connecters.

Got my 360 and wii connected up and it works perfectly, no visual or audio degradation on my 26inch Samsung LCD, I treid out Gears Of War for a realistic look and PGR3 for more vibrant colours and there is no difference at all between direct connection and connection to the splitter.

On the wii, I tired out Zelda and Red Steel and again there seems to be no difference at all, all game testing was done with the other console on and connected to the splitter which means no interference issues as well.

Overall im really impressed with the splitter, value + quality has to be 10/10
