Hi All,
Just wondering has anyone install XP/Vista on a mac mini. I love the look and size of the machine and am thinking of getting one and setting up boot camp - mainly to be used for the Internet, word processing, etc.

Anyone done the same?
Is it any good?

Sorry if it's been asked before - my search button has gone???
Thanks in advance - RC

Yes, I had the previous Core Duo model. It enables Aero thanks to the GMA950 but you still get a Windows Experience Index of 1.0 as it's the bare minimum. The little 5400rpm drive gets a good thrashing though.

They're great, but if your only using it for internet and WP, use OS X.

What he said - and if you *really* need to run Windows XP or Vista, pop in 2GB of system RAM and buy Parallel, you get to run XP or Vista natively on OSX.

Other than that, OSX has (in my opinion) a better handle at internet/word processing e.t.c. than what Windows offered me. You can always have a shot at OSX if you do get the mini...

Strange, mine gets 3.2 overall and for the graphics. I upgraded the HDD to 7200rpm which makes a big difference. However, as others have said, if you're only gonna use it for internet/word processing then use OSX. The only reason I have Vista on mine is I use it as a media centre PC.

I have one, use it as a xp media center and sits quiet happily under my telly recording live tv etc etc

I remote admin into it from my laptop when it needs a defrag etc

Have had no issues with it at all, has a 1,83 core duo (originally 1.6 solo) and 1gb ram (originally 512)

Would highly reccomend one, plus they look a million $$

Thanks for the replies, you've managed to convince me to get one. I'll be getting one in 2 weeks when I get paid :)

Thanks again.

You can also use Boot camp to dual boot OS-X or XP not sure if it works with Vista.

The upgraded Mini with the C2D chips should be very good as a media centre

On a side note, when I installed Vista on my Macbook 2.16 c2d 1gb ram it was unuseable. Aero was enabled but it was far to slow running to use. Maybe another 1gb of ram would help, but its not a slow machine by any means.

I'm thinking of getting one too although I'm going to wait until Leopard is out before purchasing. It's great to see the Mac Mini with a Core 2 Duo at last. :)

Dunno...I installed Vista on my friend's macbook with 2GB installed last week...it was lightning fast which surprised me, having been played with Vista on few PCs.

Have you burned CD with drivers prior to installing Vista?

Want my MacBook before I go back to uni! :)
It's rumoured that it's now 26th October (last Friday of the month) :)
