A rather large, slightly odd question :p
Anyway, has anyone got any experience of running the Cygwin Gnome 2 port?
All I ever use Windows for these days is games, & first and foremostly I'm wondering if its possible to use Cygwin Gnome2 as the default Window manager and simply switch to the Windows variant when gaming.
The documentation on it is pretty sparse, and it also leaves me wondering if its possible to run a standard Windows app within the Gnome UI.

Anyway, anyone with any experience or will I have to become the guinea pig :D

I'll take that as a no then :p
So far I have a crashing gnome-session & nothing much else.

Slightly oddly, the official Cygwin repositories are missing a ton of Gnome components (AFAIK, these are those which were still in testing phase when Cygnome2 closed), but the Cygwin ports page appears to have those which are missing. I'll do a complete reinstall & get back.

tbh i have no idea what you are talking about :|

cgywin in my experience is just a bash shell, its not a way of "emulating" another system

edit: oh i see now, its just a bunch of gnome tools - it doesn't make your PC become linux in windows

Gnome certainly will work on Cygwin, its just a matter of getting it to work

Thats the project page for Gnome 1.4 on Cygwin; I'm well aware that its now deprecated and that Gnome 2.14 is now in Cygwin ports, just an example as there's no official page for Gnome2 under Cygwin ;)

Cygwin is a tad more than just a bunch of tools- Its a complete project to port Linux code to stuff runable on Windows.

For anyone interested, this is where its currently crashing out:

Only screenie I can find with it clearly in a Windows window is here:
