Anyone used memtest OS X ?

I think I'm getting some instabilities from the 4GB upgrade.

I notice some Bus Errors in the log and I've seen some desktop lock ups.

So I'm thinking of using memtest OS X on it - has anyone used this?

Can't say i've tried it. Have you tried reseating the RAM?

I haven't used Memtest for OSX but wouldn't it be easier to run the Apple Hardware Test?

I forgot about AHT.. I'll try reseating the RAM and AHT test tonight, then if that doesn't show anything I'll use memtest OSX and give it several passes.

It's been 'fine' through normal light usage and with a 3GB compile.. it may be heat related too..

When I had faulty ram, AHT didn't pick it up. Memtest for os x, however, did. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine!

With an Intel Mac you just boot the CD just like you would on a generic PC. There's no need for a special version.

I've tried AHT short several times and then a long one (over an hour).

The first short AHT failed with a 4SNS/1/40000000 TGOD. Which appears to be a power issue as repeated fails show a left logic board issue (controls power) - although the machine was running on battery.
I plugged the power in and reran the short tests five more times, all passed successfully.
I reseated the ram and switched the RAM around and ran the long AHT test and that passed ok.

So last but not least, tomorrow, I'll give memtest a bash tomorrow. I've given it a quick 15 minutes but mac's fans have dropped down to 2Krpm hence it feels like it's going to cook.

Just an update.

It's currently run 2 passes of memtest86 v1.7 with a boot patch (google "memtest mac", it seems to test all 4GB) and it seems to be ok - just leaving for a third pass (it's been at it for almost 2 hours now).

Perhaps it wasn't seated correctly *shrug*

The OSX version works great for me.
