Just received a coat from an Ebay seller which uses MyHermes. Despite the ambiguous tracking page and it not being the fastest service, I can't complain.
I've read that the company uses part time drivers which each have their own region which can lead to issues when the drivers 'save up' packages for their area so that they can all be delivered on the same day / at their convenience. However, I've no idea how true this is.
Not all are part time. But I think you'll find all carriers will use part time drivers.
They fall under the "lifestyle courier" umbrella. These can be middle aged or approaching retirement age.
Its also NOT only a part time/Second job. I know of a few that are out 7 days a week. Those that do it part time/Second is because they choose a small area or just haven't proven they can do the job yet
Most Carriers will also only give a driver a small postcode area to deliver. I worked for LYNX many moons ago and was given just one postcode area (L15)
I highly doubt they save up packages too. They would lose out on bonuses. What happens the most is the HUB doesn't actually deliver the packages to the courier on time.
One of my drivers used to work for HERMES. AM deliveries being delivered to him at 12:05. He still has to sort. load up and deliver. He would then lose his bonuses due to late delivery.
It's not always the couriers fault.
