www.1and1.co.uk - spoke to sales, guy seemed to be American. He said the servers are hosted in Germany :s Ping reply of 80ms~ so sounds about right.
String of awards/recommendations, 24/7 telephone support. Anyone used them? Any problems?
Looking at the Enterprise Server 1 option btw.

Also found a company called Vi.net, also seem to be pretty good, UK based but a chunk more moola; any experience of either? Anyone else I should be looking at?
Windows or Linux (Linux preferred at this point), just need the ability to host a few domains (HTTP/SMTP) and be able to run Firebird locally. RAID 1 would be nice with some form of backup.
 
nooooooooooooooo don't use them go and look on webhostingtalk.com and webhostchat.co.uk you'll see so many bad reviews on 1and1, theyll string you in on their shiny prices but when you need help youll be waiting a few days

sorry mini rant over but i'm guessing quite a few people on here will agree

I would never use 1and1. As said - read the reviews on the web about them.

Worth having a look at the oc review site, i found my host on there and got a hefty discount too.
 
Used 1&1 for a year now and have had no problems whatsoever!!

Support has been exceptional, the service hasn't failed once, the control panel suits every single need I have, the additional domains package was the cheapest, friendliest and quickest I've ever used and even had a reduction this year on my hosting.
 
Used 1&1 for domain registration once and didn't have any problems, not used their hosting though.
 
i'm currently using them to host 2 domains and one hosted exchange mailbox.

all fine and dandy until Thursday. now I can't login to my mailbox and the tech support say the problem is on their server and will be fixed in 2 hours.

i've had the same message everyday since then when i phone.

NO call backs, NO email updates, NO service status page.

So i have to call to speak to the tech support to see what's going on.

They're very nice but totally useless now there is a problem.

I'll be taking my business elsewhere at the weekend. My wife is trying to run a business using the mailbox and so far has had to return to a paper diary.
