I have an old PC I'm using as a Smoothwall box (linux firewall distro).
It doesn't support large HDDs, since the mobo is so old, so I've been using a 6GB HDD but it's insanely loud.
Anyway, I replaced it with a 2GB CF card and IDE adapter.
Everything seems to install fine and it seems to boot fine, but it doesn't work properly.
Nothing has changed except the IDE CF card.
Can the slow write speed (read speed isn't going to be *that* much different between this an an old 6GB disk
) cause problems like this? I saw Anandtech's review of SSDs and saw Windows would sometimes not install properly because of the high latency write speeds...
