Is anyone using a GB P35 DQ6 with E8500 and F7 BIOS?

My initial setup worked fine until I flashed the BIOS to F7, now it just power cycles and won't POST.

I've swapped an E6750 in and this POSTs fine. Updated the RAM settings manually, set CPU speed to auto and put the E8500 back in - still won't POST.

Is there anything that needs to be set in the BIOS for this to work, or is this looking to be a faulty CPU.
I had similar issues with a P5K board that wouldn't boot after a BIOS update.

Not sure why it's doing what it's doing?

Is CPU voltage set to auto?

I'm using the e8500 and DS5 with 8gb in my sig with no problems.

However, i think i might be on the F5 bios though i'm not 100% sure.

Last thing to do would be to load the default settings in bios, up the ram voltage to the DDR2's rated value then save and exit. Install the e8500 and boot up. If you're still having issues i'd hazard a bios flash issue.

I completely reset the BIOS so everything is at default apart from the RAM.
Hmm, if it was a BIOS flash issue, then it probably wouldn't boot with the E6750 either.
But the fact that I've had the same problem on an Asus P35 P5K board seems to point to the CPU being the issue.
I bought the E8500 through the MM and have just sent an email to the seller to see what their thoughts are. I'm beginning to think that the CPU has had the nuts overclocked off it and won't work with the latest BIOS releases.

Yep, worked fine - but couldn't set a half multiplier, hence the reason to flash.

With the P5K board, it would get to the BIOS screen and advise that the BIOS needed to be updated in order to support the chip. After flashing, it had the same power cycle issue I have now.

That is odd.

How long have you left the DQ6 cycling? My DS5 can cycle up to 5 times occasionally.

Also, are you able to enter the BIOS with the e6750 and lock the multi to a lower factor to see if that works? I assume while the e6750 is in the 0.5x multi is disengaged?

I've gone way past calling it odd! lol

Let's just say it's a fair bit more than 5 times ;)

Not tried using a lower multi - it's currently on auto. Don't really see how that would help though?

E8500 are one of the best overclokers out there, but they degradated very quick with more than 1.45V - and a lot of the first owners are overclocking it beyond past 4000 mhz (some to 4500mhz in fact) with 1.6/1.7V:eek:

so,it´s a risky buy ,a second hand cpu like that:p
here in my country,in a lot of forums of overclockers stores,it´s a very well now " issue" eheheh
