Anyone using a QNAP as a CCTV NVR?

I'm in the process of replacing what was an old cctv system.

I face two choices and am close to pulling the trigger on a hikvision dir and 3 dome camera's.

However I have a QNAP TS453 mini which I know has surveillance station and an iOS app.

Is anyone using a snap with surveillance station and can comment on it?

Interested to know if it's reliable and if the app is good for remote live view etc?

I've only played around with it casually so can't comment on reliability etc. features don't seem too bad but you have to pay for anything other than the most basic setup and it gets quite costly if you are running multiple cameras with all the features.

EDIT: Looks like some models come with a free license for upto 4 cameras.

My model comes with a 2 camera licence so a potential cost is 1 more licence.

Do you have to pay for extra features in surveillance station beyond licences?

Be really keen to hear what remote live view is like on the app.

Was setup easy?

Not upto speed on the latest version looks like there has been a lot of updates since I last used it - used to have to pay for a lot more.

Setup was pretty much a breeze but it didn't have app functionality the same back then.

Great cheers mate.

Seems what I would spend on a dvr I could use for an extra camera license and some extra storage in my nas which is on 24/7 anyway.

Just need to find someone who uses the app to see what remote live view is like

I'm using a TS-239 Pro II+ with a hikvision bullet camera and Panasonic Dome.

No problems with surveillance station and I use Vmobile to view live feed through iOS which also allows playback via the app.

Setup was a breeze can't really say I had issues and it's been floor-less for over 2 years continuous running.

Thats great stuff cheers for that.

Taken the plunge on a poe switch to drive the cameras and will give it a go.

Good thing is I guess I'm not tied to a particular make camera to a degree so I'll have a look see whats about.

Just by way of a bit of feedback the system works very well. Setup very straightforward and in no time the camera was online, connected and recording. Really happy with the results to be honest. Picture quality is superb. I used the 'myqnapcloud' service which simplifies remote access to the nas so remote access in the surveillance app was very straightforward.

Just ordered a 2.8 mm dome to go with the bullet and it should do me for now.

Edit: my nas is running two disks in raid 0 so may chuck a single purple drive in purely as the destination for the footage.
