Anyone using Asus PCE-N53 with Windows 8.1?
I tried the Windows 8.1 beta and my then USB wifi device had to be disconnected each reboot and driver removed before plugging it back in again. So I tried the Asus PCE-N53 and that had a similar problem using the Win 8.1 default driver I think - or a driver update was downloaded via MS Update and it then had a problem after initially working fine (not sure if that caused it or a reboot). So I then installed the Asus Windows 8 driver from Asus website (not 8.1) and when I tried to use the Asus software it complained about the device not existing (or something along those lines).
I've rolled back to WIndows 7 for now and the PCE-N53 works brilliantly but wondering if others are using the now released Win 8.1 (full install rather than upgrade) and found the device works fine (with or without the additional Asus software/drivers)?

Yes matey just managed to install 8.1 this eve but I had to remove the Asus PCE N53 card in order to do so. Works perfect wired in but as soon as I put the Asus wireless card in and reboot I get the ole irql_not_less_or_equal 0xC1900101 - 0x30018 If I remove the wireless all is good but no wireless. This for me can only be temporary due to the location of the Alienware desktop.

Be interested to see if there is a driver out there that will work

Just got mine to work downloaded the ms WDK 8.1 driver kit uninstalled wireless software for the asus, removed card, put the card back in refreshed the device manager list and Asus card showing with no errors and I am currently on wireless going for another reboot to make sure all good

Great, please report back all is good. Worth trying a cold boot too, rather than just reboot, as I think that was one of the two possible triggers for it stopping working during the beta (the other being an updated driver downloaded from Windows update for the device).
Thanks for info.

Thanks for the work around, I have been trying to upgrade to 8.1 this afternoon and failing due to the card. I think I may give it a week for ASUS to get some working drivers out before trying workarounds.

Well, it hasn't worked for me. I tried installing the WDK on a clean install and then plugging the network adapter in but I still get the IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL thing and continuous reboots. I've now gone back to my trusty Linksys USB wifi device which strangely I had issues with during the Win8.1 beta but now so far seems fine (I had to keep uninstalling the driver each cold start during the beta otherwise it wouldn't transmit data).

Anyway, any other ideas? Might wait to see what ASUS come up with, or might try installing the Win 8 asus driver tomorrow and then plugging the device back in again.

A reason I bought the ASUS unit was that I thought it would be more Win8.1 ready(my old USB device is over 3 years old) and less hassle. Having to keep plugging/unplugging from the motherboard is already a PITA, and it doesn't work where as the USB one does :)

Did you do anything else after installing the WDK? With the card in I get to the rainbow like Windows 8.1 screen then get the error

Managed to crack it, on my machine anyway :).
WDK not needed.
Download the 1010 ASUS (Windows 8) driver from the website. Unzip (if necessary) so you end up with Setup.exe.
Now, with card in machine, boot it. Let it cycle through the error reboots until it goes into the a recovery stage. Then go through the options selecting the one that takes you to the next level. You will find an option to change start options or something like that. If you select this it will display a list of things you can do and a restart button. Now click restart - basically this restarts the machine into the recovery mode (where you can select 'Safe Mode') .

When machine now restarts it goes into recover mode. Select Safe Mode(option 4 I think).
This is probably not necessary but I went to Device Manage via Control panel. I expanded the networking section and could see an entry for the card. I did properties and then checked the driver version. I think it was around 25/06/2013.
Next I used explorer to run the ASUS setup.exe and completed the install. When I went back to check the driver version (via control panel/device manager) I think the driver now showed 29/09/2013. So this proved a different driver was being used. I then rebooted and all is now fine!

hope this helps someone. It's rather quickly typed but I have captured what's needed.
