Im really tempted to by compat inks for my new printer cos you get much more ink in a cart and a hell of a lot cheaper, but do I risk it?

The last printer I had was a epson dx4800 and I have used compat inks on that for the last 5yrs without any probs accept the last lot of inks I bought screwed it up

what would you do guys?? 1 geniune ink pack is just over £30 with 5.5ml but black has 7.4ml.......... compat ink 3 pack for £35, with 19ml in each cart

????

I had a cannon which took like 10 lots of compact inks before it packed up, wouldn't print black no matter what and I know the inks screwed it, chucked it out in the end but it served its purpose, now just stick with the originals, using colour laser now so it should last a while before I need to think about inks

I always use compatibles , never had a problem.

i'm reverse i used the best know compats u can get in the uk (u know who i mean) they screwed my printer within 2 minutes. especially with epson sx series i had to RMA my printer and ended up getting one back that was all scratched from the idiot that had it before me i find epson cheetahs last ages TBH unless your doing some hardcore printing

if you're going to go down the compat route (which i would not and never will) then make sure you stick with the same brand that you know works perfectly. switching to something dodgy is where most people come unstuck. in my experience the compat inks themselves are fine, it's just the dodgy manufacturing of the actual cartridge that's the problem (leaks etc). it's a risk. personally I wouldn't risk damaging a £100 printer just to save £30.

To above,
Have used compatible ink cartridges from my first printer Epson 440 to my present one Canon ip4300, about a span of 11years. I've never had any problems at all leaks, etc and found the ink quality always good, Canon inks for my ip4300 genuine inks about £65 full set. Just got 4 sets(chipped) of compatibles £25 free delivery and have used this supplier for over a year since l got my Canon. Again no problems l do a lot of printing documents + photo's, do the math's 4 sets(chipped) of compatibles £25=£6.25 a set, genuine about £65 a saving of £58.75x4=£235. The main reason print heads get blocked is that some people only use their printer once in a while, do,s not matter what ink cartridges you use the ink will dry blocking the heads so just print a small multi-coloured picture every couple of weeks. Got this tip from a printer review site a good while ago, while reading reviews about a printer l fancied, yes it use's a bit ink but it stops the heads getting blocked cheaper than buying a new printer.

How can the cheetahs last ages, they have only 5.5ml of ink in them. Its pathetic if you ask me making us pay lots for ink cart that contain a small amount of ink. Also when the printer cleans its self from time to time, thats a quarter of the carts used up......ITS A JOKE.

Sorry Im having a bad day.

Edit: Just checked to see how much is 5.5ml and its not even a inch worth of ink,, so its empty before you've even start:mad:

Also another daft thing with the SX515W is the scanner is very slightly tilted forward, so whatever youve put in the scanner will have moved by the time you've shut the lid down. So Ive rectified this with a broken pencil under the front of the printer to lift up the front, so the scanner is more or less tiltless

Ive decided that im going to get 1 pack of compatibles, then if they screw up my printer, I have a unopened pack of genuine inks that will hopefully wash it through.. Apparently it doesnt avoid the warranty by using compatibles, Quoted from a compatible cart site..........

"Major printer manufacturers normally sell printers at or below cost. They make their profits from selling the cartridges. Formerly, once you bought your expensive new printer you had no choice but to buy one of their cartridges after yours ran dry.

By using compatible or remanufactured cartridges you are cutting into their primary source of profit. Because of this, they will threaten to void your warranty if you use compatible or remanufactured cartridges. They are simply trying to protect their own interests anyway they can. It is however strictly ILLEGAL for them to do so, they CANNOT VOID YOUR WARRANTY simply for using compatible or remanufactured cartridges.

According to Hewlett-Packard, the use of a refilled print cartridge does not affect the warranty unless failure or damage is attributable to it. This is typical of all manufacturers' warranties. Keep in mind that the ink does not touch any part of the printer or internal parts other than the cartridge and print head. The ink is applied to the paper as the paper is fed through the printer. I sent a siite that looks quite good for compat inks a email saying.......
If the printer heads woud clog up afer a few days of the printer not being used.

Got a email back from them saying.........
The compatible and original cartridges contain a small amount of cleaning fluid so they won't clog up your printer after not being in use for a few days. If they are left for longer than this then they may start to dry up slightly but this would also happen with the original inks too."

So thats made me take the plunge and Ive ordered 2 packs of compatibles. so just cross fingers and toes hey?
