If so do you have any problems with it when clocked?

Running mine at 860Mhz @ 2.1v 4-4-4-12 and when i powered the system down it wouldnt boot. Even clearing the CMOS dosent work sometimes.

But with 2.2v its fine.

Just want to see if its the DS4 throwing a wobbler or the RAM

Even at 900Mhz it passes memtest fine so im sure its not the RAM at fault

i had this problem on a DS3 where sometimes it wouldnt boot and was just being a total pain. It seems, from what I've read on here, Geil RAM doesn't like being at its correct settings of 4-4-4-12 at 2.1V or under. Geil rate the RAM at 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1V but it doesnt like it. Mine was crashing all the time. So i upped it to 2.2V wiht a small overclock (running at 830mhz) and is fine

i was going to get a e6420,ds4 with the 2gb Geil pc6400 but now im having second thoughts. Id prefer to have them Ram standard than overclocked so can you suggest an alternative

which one out of these are better or fastest at their standard timings

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB) 117.49

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit

£120 max

i'd say crucial.

the only thing i'd say to anyone even considering Geil at this time is steer clear. As I said, Geil likes to run at slack timings or at high voltage to be stable and its a real pain

advice taken

can i ask, why crucial and not corsair

also what difference does the timings make

ie - corsair 5-5-5-12
crucial - doesnt say - but might be 4-4-4-12 like geil

Memory Timings: CL=4

most probably 4-4-4-12

corsair is also good but i think the Crucial beats it because of the lower latency timings which mean the RAM has less lag time and also Crucial states the voltage which is a good indication to go by if overclocking

will go with crucial then

as i wont be overclocking the e6420, it will be 2.1ghz stock which means 266mhz FSB.

But will the RAM be at 266 too or can i manually change it to what its rated at (is it 400mhz each for the crucial ram?)

If youre going for the DS4 you can change the RAM to run at 800Mhz

I had no problems with the Geil in my DS3.
