Anyone using Philips hue lights?

These things are pretty expensive so before I grab some just wondering if anyone here are using the Phillips hue lights? I'm asking because I've heard some say they aren't bright enough compared to a regular bulb, also I've heard after time they can dim a little.

Also anyone using a cheaper alternative that they can recommend?

I have not heard that complaint before. In fact we leave ours dimmed slightly 99% of the time.
