Anyone using PMC consumer speakers?

My work uses exclusively PMC professional monitors with Bryston amps, which are a blindingly good combination, but too large and expensive for a home setup.

Does anyone have any experience with the smaller bookshelf-size PMC speakers? Are they worth the premium over a similar set of B&Ws or like?

General well reviewed and regarded speakers. As with all speakers try and listen to them to see if their style suits your taste. Secondly with any high grade speaker don't skimp on the amps and front source.

I've got some TB2S. On Wed I'm having them upgraded to TB2S+ and meeting the UK sales manager to borrow some of their newer versions for a bit. :)

There's no difference between the consumer and pro versions other than the veneer, and frankly I quite like the matt black. As for how they sound? Beautifully balanced for such a small enclosure and the bottom end just rolls off in a much more natural way, unlike ported speakers. They sound way bigger than they are and surprise everyone who listens to them.

I've heard PMCs a number of times and really rate them, particularly their active units.
If you're seriously considering a pair, do go have a listen to some ATCs. Similar brief, i.e. they build for the pro industry and happen to make some for home use. I've haven't heard enough of each range to say which is definitely better, but I think I've preferred the active ATCs so far. Bearing in mind the money involved, would be worth hunting around.

As for B&W, sorry but I really don't like them and I've heard units upto and including some of their BIG nautilus range. Clearly some people love em', so it's just another good example of personal preference at work.

Would love to hear some PMCs, but any auditions these days will ignite the upgrade ubg, something I do not wish to contract again for a long time.

FYI, I use passive ATC standmounts with a powerful class-D amp (ATCs need powa!!!!!)

Lovely sound, effortless and natural. But boy does this combo show up bad recordings. Go have a listen to some combos to see what you think.

We used to use ATC 100As and I really couldn't stand them, the IB1s and MB2S PMCs that we use are much more laid back; they're pleasant to use for hours, whereas the ATCs could wear you out.

I've had a listen to the TB1s and TB2s in a 2.1 config (can't seem to find the sub used on the PMC website) and they were lovely. Didn't get a chance to listen without the sub or in a biamp config. That's my next task.

I have heard a few sets the ones I loved and are in the process of saving up for are EB1s and a couple of Bryston power amps for them. They sounded stunning !

I have heard the bookshelf ones (can't remember the model) they really need a sub with them I felt but sounded superb.

I've recently come into a pair of PMC OB1s. Really nice sound, crystal clear taut and fast with no wooliness. Not as warm as some people prefer, quite dry in their performance but really detailed. For instance, Monitor Audio (and the B&Ws that I've heard) are quite an enveloping sound and are quite different to these. I'm happy.

Also I agree with Lowe, the pro models are supposed to the exact same with as the home models but with less WAF.
