I always used Start8 in Windows 8 because as hard as I tried, I could not get along with the whole start screen thing, and Start8 was fantastic.

Now we have Windows 10 and the start menu is back, but to me the live tiles are beyond useless as I never use them and they look crap. Plus I like having my folders there readily available, rather than opening file explorer first.

If you're not getting on with the new style start menu, definitely give it a try. I just find it much more productive. Of course not everyone will feel the same but I know I can't be the only one. I think it looks great too.

I used startisback in Win 8 but I think I'm going to give the new start menu a bit of time as I think I'll get used to it.

Must admit I like the look of that. Coming from Windows 7, I got quite accustomed to the way of pinning stuff to the start menu/taskbar - it worked really well.

Can you customise the way the Shut down options are shown, i.e. can you have a direct shutdown link?

I found a guide on how to customise the start menu, but there's only so much you can do: http://www.cnet.com/uk/how-to/how-to-customize-the-windows-10-start-menu/

I don't use the start tiles, so just removed them and shrunk the start menu. Not sure how a third party application could better it?

Bought it yesterday and man I am sooooooooo glad I did! I can finally organise my Start Menu again like I have been able to for the past god knows how long!

Cost me £3.30 from their store and worth every penny!

I used to use classic shell which is free to use and gave me back the W7 start menu but with W10 so far I don't mind the new start menu after removing all the tiles etc

Nice find and it does look neat. I'll stick with the standard Windows 10 Start Menu for now though and see if I can get used to it, as it's a lot less jarring than the Start Screen used to be.

You can customise quite a lot of things yeah, including the shutdown button, so can be a direct button to sleep or shut down, whatever you like :)

yes same.

i paid for loads of start8 licences for my pc's and others, 8 was so rubbish. but like you i will give 10 a good go first.

I've been using W10 for a few months now so have already decided that even though it's much improved, it's not for me.

Right click the live tile and set it to off and it looks like any other tile, that's all I've had to do and the new menu seems fine for me.

I did have Start8, do I actually need to buy 10 or is it transferable?

Start8 will work but Start10 has a modern look skin and also has shortcuts to the new Windows 10 control panel.

If you go to the Start10 buy page and scroll to the bottom there is a bit that says 'Own Start8? Click here to find out if you qualify for Start10 upgrade pricing.' Just put your email address you registered Start8 with and you will get $1 off Start10.

It's not much off but better than nothing :p
