Anyone using the talktalk super router? (vdsl ac wireless model)

I am due to ve shipped one soon as part of a fttc upgrade. I thought I would give it a spin rather than replace it without trying it for the sake of it, as it's spec on paper is actually rather good.

Does anyone here use it? How do you find it if so? :)
 
Good place to talk about the HG635 Super Router is over at Kitz forum. I got one recently but haven't been using it much due to already having loads of VDSL modems/routers. I did recently take a look at the connection stats compared to my unlocked Openreach HG612 and it gave a better sync speed and noise margin - I was using it in bridge mode so can't really comment on wireless quality(web management interface available in bridge mode as standard - unlocking not needed).

Watch out the 1.06t automatic firmware upgrade doesn't lock you out(I needed to factory reset mine to get back in). :rolleyes:

Thanks for the tips, by all accounts it seems very good on paper. Reviews regarding wireless performance seem mixed, but this is in comparison to the very best AC routers. I am coming from an old Billion ADSL2+ router so i am sure that the wireless performance will outshine that :p To be honest wireless throughput doesnt interest me much anyway, everything which matters in my house runs through the structured cabling.

I am not sure whether to use it in conjunction with an HG612 (i have an unlocked one ready to go as a modem as i didnt know what i was going to do hardware wise once VDSL came along). It is interesting that you say that the internal modem seems better than the HG612 though, that could sway me as my line wont be fast enough for full rate.

Ideally i had wanted the two box solution though so that i could have the router in my study (my study is a long way from the drop wire DP at my house, so i would rather locate the modem separately near to the DP then feed it through the structured cabling in my house to my study).

Yep it has a featureset as complete as any other high end consumer router out there, whether or not the features work in practice is another question!
 
The super router for an ISP router is good, just as good as my old Billon 7800n it replaced.

Wifi seems a lot better to me than the Billon, connects at just about the same speeds as the BT Openreach modem and Billon combo did.

The only downside I have come across is when torrenting with a lot of connections open it seems alittle slower, but not by a lot.
 
Sounds promising, i am actually coming from a Billion as mentioned so your experience is interesting to hear :)
 
i had one for a while, [came free with my new fibre package with them] ran great for 2 weeks, then started to see wifi dropouts, followed by none of the Ethernet ports working until a reboot, went back to using my old netgear router running tomatoUSB.

when it is working though, range is very good and 5ghz is very fast, its very good at organizing heavy traffic so nothing drops out if a single person decides to try download at 100% of your internet speed.
