Hi

I'm just about to get a new bike and wouldn't mind filming my time on it. I plan to have the bike for a long time and it'd be nice to look back on videos.

I've had a look at the GoPro Hero 3, but it's so damn expensive. Also had a look at the ContourHD which seems to be a better price, but not heard much about it.

Does anyone here film while on their bike and if so, what camera do you use or recommend?

Cheers.

I think quite a few of us here use a GoPro, metbandit1 I think Vlog's quite a bit.
I have a Hero2 and used to record quite a few of mine but just recording not talking crap :p
Just bought some more sticky mounts as I want to change the mount position on my helmet so might start recording again soon...

I watch a lot of biker vloggers on youtube, and it seems the universally agreed choice of best camera is the Drift Ghost HD. You can get 10% off using one of a couple of codes as vloggers have team up with them. £249.99 with a free spare battery, then 10% off using VONTEN (BaronVanGrumble) or IAMSPICY (spicy110). Has input for an external mic (which you'll need for proper vlogging) so you can eliminate wind noise by having a mic inside your helmet.

BaronVonGrumble is a legend! :)

I'll take a look. Cheers.

£250? I found it on another well known site for £144.99. Any idea what the difference is?

Edit: Nevermind, ones a Ghost, the other isn't.

Yeah, Not sure what all the differences are between the 2, but the Ghost has a better screen/buttons/remote, wifi(?) and based on this comparison video, visibly much better colour reproduction and detail, and less distortion. And better dynamic range.

If I was gonna get into vlogging, or just doing some sports video (would be great for windsurfing/surfing too, no boxy case to make it waterproof like a gopro) I'd get a ghost.

The Ghost and the GoPro proved to expensive for me, and I don't plan to talk, I just wanted video really.

So I've opted for the Contour ROAM2 for £134.99.

It's just for fun, nothing serious and if I feel like I need better quality in the future (the ROAM also does 1080@30fps and 720@60fps), then I might spend £250 but I think the ROAM2 is a very reasonable price for an amateur.

Hopefully it fits on my helmet ok.

I decided to have a dabble at vlogging after..

1, A mate telling me to record/'vlog' our conversations whilst on intercom as he thought the random rubbish I spouted was hilarious (well he thought so, I was being serious :p)

and

2, Watching the likes of Svengalie, BaronVG etc.

Thought I'd have a go at it. Problem was, having no one to talk to I didn't say 'owt, and when I did, I hated hearing my own voice + my commute is just shy of 10 mins, so it was a short lived experience!

Picked up a Drift Ghost HD and mic + 16gb microsd for £300 at the NEC last year when they were just released. Battery life is one of the most impressive feature, had over 3 hours use before it died on me. What with the remote and tagging feature it's very much the vlogging weapon of choice
